A Bridge Too Far is a cracker from the golden age, as are The Bridge at Remagen and The Eagle Has Landed. Of recent times FMJ and Private Ryan are stand-outs. From my neck of the woods you blood and guts aficionados might like to check out "Gallipoli" (with a very young Mel Gibson), "Breaker Morant" and "The Odd, Angry Shot".

Calling in Puff the Magic Dragon is classic.

ahhh my personal favorite, not because it was good (IT WAS), but because my drill instructor made us watch that thing 27 times in 8 weeks. By week 6, most of my platoon memorized most of the dialogue

"Tears of the Sun" and "Platoon Leader"

I like a lot of the one's posted, but I'll include Murphy's War w/ Peter O'Toole into the mix.

First half of Full Metal Jacket, then Band of Brothers. In that order. Was Top Gun consider a war movie? I mean, really, Maverick got the upside down, middle finger photo of the mig (that was really an F-5)
just kidding....:busted:
