What, no Transformers thread before the holiday?

I wish Michael Bay hadn't sold out to GM. I mean, the Japanese gave us Transformers. The least he could have done is make Bumblebee a Fairlady Z.

As much as I love the Z (I have had 3), that Camaro was bad ass. My friend Joe has a '76 Camaro (total white trash edition) that looks like a red version of Bumblebee, then last month he bought an '06 350Z. Even he said he would trade the Z for that prototype Camaro.

Agreed, the Camaro was hot and I sure as hell wouldn't mind driving one. Still wish Bay had paid a little homage to the people who gave him Transformers.

just saw it. BADASS. very glad they kept the love scenes to a minimum. getting tired of the romantic story overpowering the action aka spiderman. also glad they picked the two hottest girls ever to help save the world

Visuals and SFX - awesome.

Story line and Plot - I think the writers watched a few too many other holiday movies while in the process.

1/ Alien technology that has been reverse engineered to create our modern age.
2/ Headquarters of secret governemt agency responsible for said technology is hidden under public utility.
3/ Governemnt agency guys running round in black suits.
4/ Source of immeasurable alien power left on earth

Oh, snap I'm watching MIB.

1/ Alien technology has code that NSA bunch of geeks can't crack.
2/ Cracked by hacker friend of geek.
3/ Communications knocked out, lets use shortwave and morse code.

No, maybe watching ID4, Independence Day or whatever it was called.

1/ Machines pretty much invulnerable to current weaponry.
2/ One group wants to kill humans.
3/ Other group protect them,
4/ Machines fight each other in climax of movie.

Hmm, Terminator 2/3?

Yes, I got a buzz from seeing the Autobots and the Decepticons on the big screeen, but movie was let down by storyline.

The other issue I have is that the target age for merchandising is well below the age of kid that should be going to a such a movie. I'd sure appreciate having to explain to a 5 year old what jacking off is.

Effing killer movie. More than the gm advertisements how about the Army advertisements. It even seemed like it was shot like those army of one ads (did they get Bay to do those too?). Would have liked to see more of the robots actually fighting, but all that rendering would have pushed the movie back years I bet. Anyway it was the slam, couldn't stop smiling beginning was a little slow though. I would totally see it again.

yeah I was a bit disappointed in the choice of cars...would have liked to see more variety...I would have also liked to see a motorcycle....overall though it was a lot better than I thought it was going to be.

It's kind of cool to see the cool things you grew up with finally being made into a movie. They should have made Bumblebee a Volkswagen Beetle though...D

Just saw it. Liked it.

Good points:

-Camaro was kickass
-2 of the hottest chicks ever
-Cool action scenes
-Jazz getting torn in half, and Megatron's random carnage

Not so great points:
-Bumblebee is supposed to be a VW Bug, no? (guess the hot chick angle would have suffered)

-Pretty much the whole scene with the Autobots converging on the parents' house. Masturbation references? , "My bad"?, all the other cutsie poo stuff around the house. Cringe-worthy.

-Bumblebee "urinating" on John Turturo. A little crass.

-The transforming, although cool, was all zoomed in/zoomed out and rotated so fast, you couldn't see what the hell was going on, ditto for a lot of the battle scenes.

-Didn't anyone else notice that black people are made to look a little over-the-top-clowny in the movie? I mean come on, even the computer genius is a big fat coward idiot. (and they killed Jazz, who is black, coincidence?)

Still a good movie for 5 bucks, if you look past the stench of racialism.

I felt the same way until I was reading the stats on what was involved in rendering what little they did show. I would have liked to have seen more slow motion stuff and greater detail, but there was a lot of data moving just to do all that.

I guess being the geek I am, I have high expectations.

Oh, and to see Apple's on the defense network is funny. I used to use my Powerbook on the DOD network and people at State would freak out if they knew.

Finally saw it last night. Friggin awesome! I had a big crooked grin on my face for pretty much the entire movie. They might as well cancel the Oscars, since it's now obvious which movie will win every single category:

Best Picture: Transformers
Best Robot: Transformers
Hottest Bimbo Mechanic: Transformers
Best Supporting Robot: Transformers
Best Scene Involving a Robot Using Freeway Overpasses for Uneven Bars: Transformers

You get the idea.

It would have been cool if the medic autobot would have been running around fixing his buddies during the big battle though.
