What sprockets for a DRS?

Hey I was running a dual ring Evil bashguard set up for a while and finally aquired a DRS.

Here is the situation:

It is on my recreational HT that I believe I am running 22/34t currently.... I would have to double check. how far before my gearing spread becomes bad for trail riding?

I took a little road ride (flat and about 20 miles) and I just left it in the middle ring.....but on the road with no stop lights and no traffic...it was, of course, to low.

Should I go 22 and 38t? or 22 and 40? Are these to big of jumps? Should I also bump up my bail out/granny gear and run a 24/40 in the front? 26/42?

What do other people run? I fear I will lose the "Do (most of) it all" that I currently have with my 34t middle ring. I know the DRS also dictates how big the ring can get....Maybe I can only go to something like 36?

I guess this inquiry is a real mess. :)

*yeah it was painfull for me to read....hopefully I clean it up  I left out whole words and everything...it was bad even for me!

It is what ever came stock on the Hardrock....

Probably a 11-32? Pretty broad range cuase I am not fit to run a road cassette. ;)

A 22-36 is a manageable gap. Any more than a 14 tooth difference might not work out that great. I ran this combo for a long time and was pretty happy with it. Not enough gear for road or fireroad, but sweet on the trail.

A 36 is great as long as you don't have too many middle ring climbs where a 36 would be too tall. Here its steep up/steep down so it works pretty well.

WHat you have to ask yourself is how much climbing are you going to do? I have run a 26-38 on some long climbes and it was good. South and North mtns in AZ on a 40 lb 7" travel bike with that setup. At home I run a 24-36 and that works great for me. All of these combos are with an 11-32.

Thanks everyone.

I guess I have to do some soul searching this weekend :)

Hey dw,

Can I drop the bashring for a road ride and then take it off for normal everyday riding? Or will the chain munch up the guide below?

I just for the first time in a long time was wanting/mising my big ring. That in itself is strange because I NEVER use it in the woods. Just those dang easy/squeezy road rides.

I will probably just tough it out and learn to spin....spin fo 1-2hrs. Onother UNHEARD of thing for me to do. :D
