Well, it was a big mistake with the school.

It is obvious that the kids wearing the flags were just trying to yank some chains. But, so what?

Freedom of expression means I might be a flaming douche, and that's ok.

Now I know the 1st Amendment doesn't apply to schools, but it sends a horrible message to pull these kids.

pretty stupid decision, but i see the frothing in the comments of that video doesn't add to the debate in any functional way.

Sanjuro mentioned this, but you weren't under the impression that kids in schools are covered by the bill of rights, were you?

Ever done a locker search without a warrant?

Also, totally against the flag code. How come all the God fearing patriots aren't up in arms about that?

(Yes, really stupid decision by the administrator. I'd fire him, but I'm a dirty ****ing hippie that thinks kids should have rights. I'd also fire him for being such a dumbass and not realizing that he was getting played. YMMV.)

man that school must be pretty nice if this is their biggest concern. I remember my first day of high school there was almost a fight in health class. While the teacher was taking the students down to the principals office (this was before we had police stationed at our school) a kid pulls out a big magnum sharpie, unscrews the end, pours out some coke and starts banging rails. On his desk. A few of his friends joined in.

and this is where they lost me...

i like how the pro-cinco crowd is trying to make the case this is like wearing a mexican flag on 4th of july, only - as pointed out in another thread - it's a gabacho "holiday", and we're not in mexico

what's the +/- these kids are gonna get tapped out next week when they finally get the sac to leave the trailer?

Not only is a locker *not* private property (all schools maintain that they own the locker and have the right to search it at will), but even as a student your rights to not be searched is pretty flimsy....

And not sure about where this took place, but here in WI there's a group of white students that parade around in US flag gear like it's their gang symbol. How much these racist douchebags actually *act* like a gang is questionable, but it has definitely morphed into using the US flag as a racist symbol of hatred. But as usual, short inflammatory news articles never actually delve into the subject beyond whatever is enough to get all the teabaggers riled up.

to teach them a lesson, they should be conscripted into military service

i wouldn't be surprised to find the riling goes well beyond tbaggers. there are others who don't like bullying & racism, which is clearly demonstrated here.

[for kidwoo]:
but still - tapout? really? tbaggers are going to have to hold their noses & go back to their roots to support them. dog to its vomit & all that.

The point is, of course, that they were presumed not to be wearing fragments of our national totem to celebrate the country, but to express xenophobia.

The school administrators, in my opinion, were correct in their assessment of the motivation of the donkey children, but were out of line on a free speech basis.

This **** is not important. The state of education disparities, teacher compitency, adminstrative support or lack there of, parental involvement and community engagement in a public service provider as large as our public school systems is what should really piss you off. There are important issues within the school system that could benefit from some real parental anger. This issue is not one of them.

WTF is cinco de mayo? Is that happy hour at Don Pablo's mexican restaurant!
Hellmann's Mayonnaise - a bit of history. (In the Western States, it is known as Best Foods Mayonnaise) Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York . This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico. But as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York . The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost. The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day. The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course, as - Sinko De Mayo.

you've proven my point. why are the school administrators worrying about such a trivial matter? is enforcing tolerance/PC'ness/culturally sensitivity more important than keeping students in the classroom?

, teacher compitency, adminstrative support
i see that you have extensive experience in faults of the modern education system ;) ;)

chilling vid; not for its content, but for the unwavering cumdrunk crowd who think that while mexico was stolen, they don't care to investigate how mexico got it from their predecessors. and while they rail against capitalism, why are opportunities better here than in left-of-center gov'ts found in latin amer?
