So a few years back, they knock down the Kingdome. IT was used for baseball, football and exhibitions. They replace the dome, (which really had nothing wrong with it), with three purpose-specific stadia, for baseball football, and exhibitions.

Now, the Sonics want to abandon Key Arena......which is in PRIME downtown Seattle...easy to get to....and NOT that old. They want to build a NEW arena.....in BELLEVUE?? And for those not familiar, Bellevue is no treat to get to, especially when there are lots of people all going to the same place....like say...a BASKETBALL GAME.

Friggin retarded, I say.....

Umm, correct me if I'm wrong, but it's my understanding that not that many people attend Sonics games. Thus, no problems.

Actually I don't think its even an issue of attendance. It has to do with high profit luxury boxes and suites and other such things.

Truth be told, the previous owners have no one to blame but themselves. They make Wally Walker (the former on-air color announcer or whatever he was) the president who the proceeds to piss off Kemp by giving McIllvane (I know, "who?") a contract bigger then his when he and Payton were the stars, fires Karl after what, 5 straight 60+ win seasons including 1 or 2 conference finals and a NBA finals, then pisses off McMillan after he puts together increasingly better seasons with Walkers hand picks scrubs.
Yeah, don't even get me started...

And MMike its not Seattle, it was the owners asking, ney, demanding, and the people saying "I don't think so". The previous revision to the Colesium (I still don't like to say Key Arena) was done to what they asked for. I think Agyros or Argossy or what ever the previous owners name was realized what he had done and then snookered Schultz (Starbucks CEO) into buying them. He then cried that he wasn't making enough money and then sold the team to prove it. He is a very shrewd business man and he realized that unlike some of his other endeavors, he wasn't making huge profits with a mediocre product.

I have to admit, the new owner (from Oklahoma) is making a pretty good show of the "we're not moving the team to Oklahoma, we plan to keep them right here in the Seattle area" thing. But I think its pretty well understood that as soon as they find a way out of the lease (until 2010 I believe) they are gone. I think even if they can't get out of the lease, 2010 is the last of the "Seattle" Sonics.

Kind or funny that just after this all went down, Paul Allen pulled the Trailblazers off the market? Can you say "Introducing your Seattle Trailblazers!"

Well obviously I know it's not the Johnny Lunchpails of Seattle that want a new arena...... I just find it funny that the issue is even on the table. It's just seems like it's the cool thing to do there....I want a new stadium!

Because seriously...besides being ugly, what was wrong with the Kingdome?

Until 2010, the owners should rename the team "Oklahoma City Sonics of Seattle."

Ceiling tiles we're falling down all over the place...not earthquake safe to a high enough standard....blah blah blah....I like both the new stadiums and the expo center. But then again, I like the Mariners and the Seahawks. I despise the Sonics from a management point of view and refuse to pay to go to a game. Only if the tickets are free do I even ponder the idea.

Kinda odd, I used to play all three sports....now the only one I play with any regularity at all is basketball...and I like watching the others....things to make you go hmmmm.....

BUT, didn't they spend like $60mil to fix the roof and the ceiling tiles, then implode it before the tab was even half paid off????
I think they should have kept the dome and used it for the car shows and supercross and things like that.
BTW, I have never paid to go to a baseball game, basketball game or football game; Amy gets lots of tickets from her bosses.
I have to admit it was fun going to that monday night game when they played the Cowboys. Fun until we got to the car (left with about 2 minutes and an "insurmountable" lead) only to hear on the radio they lost?

Yeah...I wasn't saying that I agreed with them blowing the thing up...but I like the new ones. That MNF game was a travesty. Never mention that again. That is all. :banghead:
