Companies brace for end of cheap made-in-China era

Uppity Asians.

Factory workers demanding better wages and working conditions are hastening the eventual end of an era of cheap costs that helped make southern coastal China the world's factory floor.

A series of strikes over the past two months have been a rude wakeup call for the many foreign companies that depend on China's low costs to compete overseas, from makers of Christmas trees to manufacturers of gadgets like the iPad.

As much as I dispise Wal Mart when it comes to groceries it's the game to beat here locally. I'd love to be able to pay a premium and buy at the local whole food market, etc..........but trying to keep a family of 5 fed and our heads above water financially means we shop quite a bit at "Evil Mart".

You might be able to save quite a bit if you shop around. I know when we first moved to Woodburn, we shopped a few times at the Super WalMart and thought it was a good deal. But a lot of the items we bought were actually cheaper (or cheaper at other WalMarts).
