What will work with the Saint RD?

I know the Saint rear hub will obviously work, if I go that route is there any chance my hayes brakes will work with the saint rotor?

Can you get the Saint axle without the hub and use a 10mm rear hub? Say Hadley?

I know a lot of you hate Shimano and dislike the Saint concept but please don't make this thread a into a Shimano vs SRAM gripe session. I've simply had enough of replacing hangers on my RFX, I've been through 12 in three years and they aren't cheap but are as soft as warm butter.

Check the compatibility section on their website it says it all
FAQ's:
Do I have to use the Saint rear hub to use the Saint rear derailleur, and is the opposite true also?

The Saint rear derailleur was designed for maximum durability and in doing so, the rear derailleur mounting point was moved to the rear axle. This means that for the rear derailleur to work properly, a dedicated hub is required. The rear derailleur may mount to other axles of the same diameter and thread pitch, however, no other combinations have been tested, so performance is unknown. At this time, there is no other rear derailleur that will likely mount to the Saint rear hub axle

So basically this doesn't answer any of your questions. :dancing:

You can use any thru axle hub that can at least accomodate a 10mm axle. In all cases, you need the Saint axle. A 10mm thru axle hub works as is, a larger hub will also work if you shim the axle OD to adapt the Saint axle to the hub. I'm using a CK Iso with the HD axle with a Saint derailleur. The hub axle has a 12mm thread so I wrap the Saint axle with a couple layers of tape to take out the slop, it works well (I've run it all year). The Saint hub is okay if you need a hub (I have one built up with a 24" rim), as a bonus the axle comes with it. Saint rotors are fine but kind of expensive, they work with other calipers as long as the diameter is right.

Tape? dude, thats so sketchy. Especially for a king hub.

I belaive there are a couple hubs coming out that are saint compatible, but have 6 bolt rotors. I know Dirtyparts.ca sells one, and i know there are a few others out there. I also beleive there is an adaptor on the way that will convert a Saint hub to 6 bolt as well, but i'll be damned if i can remember where i saw that.

Don't think I'll try the tape idea. It'd be nice if there was a Saint 12mm kit, lots of hubs at that size.

There is. All the Devinci freeride bikes came with a 12mm hub i beleive, and a Saint Deraileur. You could always stick a shim to make up for the 150 hub length, 15mm isn't that much.

I used a saint mech with a saint axle ($52) & hadley 10mm thruaxle hub. Hadley were coming out with a saint axle of their own that was going to run ~$80.

Hugi have a saint compatable hub as well. Not sure if it comes with an axle but I would imagine it does.

Like you said, you could use a Saint hub which would come with the axle, but you'd then need to use a saint rotor. There isn't a problem solver adaptor solution for mounting 6-bolt rotors. Only for the smaller splined XTR. I think that saint splines and 6-bolt standard bolt holes have similar bcds making it impossible.

If you go saint, don't forget you're commiting yourself to rapid-rise.

If you buy a saint hub and need a saint rotor, PM me as I have 2 8" rotors and their centerlocks.

What's sketchy about it? All the tape does is help center the axle in the hub by taking up the ~.010" gap between it and the threads.

If you have a 12mm hub then all you need is a piece of tubing (aluminum or whatever) that's 12mm OD and 10mm ID to use the Saint axle. You can also probably adapt a 12mm axle by turning the end down and re-threading it for the Saint. Using a 150mm axle and shimming (as already has been mentioned) is also a possibility.

A few companies are making little doohickies that go between the nut on the QR skewer and the dropout that have a prong that comes down and fits into the mounting bolt for the derailluer. I saw a bunch of those in Whistler. They act like the specialized Demo9 der. protector and basically make your der. hanger double shear instead of single. I think they run about $30.

Problem Solver's handy Centerlock adapter converts Shimano® and Shimano®-style Centerlock hubs (XTR, XT, and DT Centerlock) type hubs into a standard 6-bolt ISO rotor mount. You can then mount a standard 6" disc rotor.

Please note: this item does not work with Shimano Saint® hubs, or Shimano XTR® WH-M965 and XT® WH-M765 wheelsets.
Don't work with saint hub ;)
