that you can use to make your laptop HDD into an external drive? my ide controller on one of my laptops is bad, so i still want to be able to use my hdd as a usb external drive. i've seen this thing...a hardshell enclosure w/ an ide-to-sata guts.

You can also get a USB ATA/SATA adapter if you are just pulling data too.

i think i'm screwed. it's a former win2k disk (shouldn't matter), but after i tried to load xp on it from boot, it now isn't recognized at all. i even flashed the bios from a multibay 1.44m diskette.

another ubuntu machine?

If your controller is bad no OS will see it.
