My roommate and I have recently been turned on to pumpkin beer  What are some of the best (available in Western NC) pumpkin beers? We've only tried the Blue Moon pumpkin beer and it was pretty good but I know there's better stuff out there. Suggestions?

IMO blue moon has probably been one of the most mundane pumpkin beers I've tried
The Best - DogFish Head Punkin Ale
The Runner - up CottonWood Pumpkin Ale
and Saranac Pumpkin is the best for the price

i'm a fan of IPAs, but can appreciate the pumpkin stuff. this is what i have had so far this year:

southern tier pumking. i had this one last week. its sweet. lots of caramel. gave me a headache. great aroma. it's like drinking beerpie.
post road - good stuff. it actually tastes like pumpkin and not spices.
shipyard pumpkinhead - they add the flavors after the brewing is done i believe. its a meh, but i feel like they cheated. worth trying.
sam adam's pumpkin harvest - its all spice and no pumpkin.

Dancin' over rocks n' roots!
This year's fall seasonal Harpoon UFO (unfiltered offering) is pumpkin. It's decent...not too sweet and not too much fruit/spice taste.

Others that have been good in the past:
Dogfish Head Punkin' Ale
Southern Tier Pumking
(last year's) Shipyard Smashed Pumpkin Ale was good (only had it on tap not bottled)

I personally thought that Post Road tasted like chemicals (like drinking perfume); Saranac Pumpkin Ale & Blue Moon were *meh*

I'd like to try the Terrapin Pumpkin Fest, Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin and Cape Ann Brewing Company in MA has a Fisherman's Pumpkin Stout (regular, Imperial and maybe even a Coffee Pumpkin Stout) that I would love to get a taste of.

Pumpkin beer is an abomination. The only thing worse is chile beer. :disgust1:
I agree that pumpkin beer blows goats, but I have had exactly one chile beer that I liked alright- it was an imperial stout, not the usual light lager though. I forget who brewed it though.

The only one I'll drink (and I'll only drink one at a time cause they are sweet) is the DFH Punkin Ale. After that I gotta wash it down with an IPA. sstalder5, check out the Bayou beer store, they should have it.

I usually hate pumpkin pie, I like my mother's pumpkin bread, and I sorta like the pumpkin beers.

Blue Moon is "ok"
But the other night at the bar I had Michigan Brewing Company's pumpkin beer on tap, and it was fantastic. I bought a 6 pack, it was meh, so I guess having it fresh on tap was one of the keys to enjoying it.

Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale will change you mind about pumpkin beer. Worth it if you can get it, usually limited run, try Wegemans if they sell beer where you are.

I hate flavored beer but there are a few pumpkins I will drink. One of which is Shipyard Pumpkin Head.

LIES! All rotten LIES!
Not true... GCB had a delicious chile beer a couple winters ago. The dubbed it the Javapeño Stout... I believe it was an espresso Imperial Stout with some chipotle action going on. Holy FACK it was good. Just a bit of smokey heat from the chipotles, plenty of awesome coffee stoutness.

La Cumbre Brewing Co's Witch's Tit is by far my fav (only available on tap at their ABQ brewery though).

The only good pepper beer I've had is the newest release from Left Hand Brewery, Fade to Black Vol 3 Pepper Porter. It has a hint of chile on the finish and is very well balanced. I did like last season's Vol 2 Smoked Baltic Porter better, but Vol 3 is very good.
