For "me", they are the best rims I ever used. I have one set on my play bike, one on my DH, both are still going strong.
Inflating a UST tire on them is child play, they are light and small dings do no seem to affect them much.
Not the best rim for a wheel basher who drags its wheel through the rocks or those having difficulties being moderately light on their bikes (because of their technique or shear mass) but for everone else it's a great rim.
... That was MY opinion. I love them and I would not trade them for anything else
I'm on my 3rd 823 in 3 months, I love the concept, sidewalls are a little too soft, if you're going to use it for DH it seems like 35-38psi is the ticket to making them last a bit.
I'm really axious to see their new offerings for 2005 - I only had issues with the rear, my front seems to be hoding strong, heck I'm on my 2nd season a the same D3.1
thanks, but really thats all i have to say in regards to 823s, they flatspoted, cracked, dented, and had the threaded eyelets break on me way too easily, im glad to be rid of them
My 823's are hanging in there but they're looking a little rough around the edges at this point. THe sidewalls are starting to balloon out and there are dents and hops all over. I'm trying to make them last until the last race after which I'll dynomite them to smitherenes.
there's a lot more to ride on/off in chicago than just curbs. There's homeless people, there's Ronnie WooWoo, uh, more homeless people, countless stairsets, and the beach.

D3.1/X823... no thanks, well maybe I'll keep one for the front wheel. I'm even lighter than ze Acadian and after a couple of days riding Northstar and Whistler my rear 823 has a couple of pretty obvious flatspots, sidewalls are still holding air, but for how long? Don't get me wrong, I love these rims and I'm not ready to go back to tube type but now I'm seriously expecting Mavic (or anyone else) to come out with a better dh tubeless rim. I talked to a Mavic guy recently and he told me the new DeeMax rims will be available in 32 and 36 holes this fall (as seen on many of the pro bikes). Now I just hope they won't come in yellow, or I'll have to add a few bucks/grams of powder coating to cover this scar. I also hope they'll be cheaper than the 823

I know the new Deemax are yellow but I'm sure the rims only will be either black or hard anodized like past years.
As far as the 832's go, I love mine and I feel that I have been hard on them. They are still very true and have required very little maintenance. I do run fairly high PSI though and try to ride as smooth as possible. I have cased a few times pretty bad w/no damage. Aside from my good experiences, I still would not buy them right now, not because I dislike them but because I know they will soon be obsolete. I suggest waiting for the replacement to come out, which should happen soon.
