What's the widest rear axle? How wide is a Monster-T front axle?

I'm building a multi-bike hitch rack and need to know how far apart I need to keep the bikes (alternating direction), any idea? I'm not worried about the cranks hitting, but do need to have enough room for axles and such. I was thinking 3" wide slots for the wheels with 6" spaces between the wheels. Might be a little close for a real big DH rig, any thoughts?

Well my Iron Horse with a 165mm rear hub is a full 9" wide at the widest point including the dropouts and the nuts for the thru-axle. 6" definitely is too tight...

the monster t doesn't have an especially wide axle, but the width of the legs will kill ya. the axle is inboard, if that makes sense

Ahhh, that's right. What is the Monster outside of leg to outside of leg then?

Thanks for checking Trees, I should have phrased the question better.

My '03 monster is 8 1/2" outside to outside.
