I need to get some new wheels for a 20mm fork that's coming. My buddy likes my current wheels and we are thinking of trading and I'll sell his. I am down to help a brother out but not if it means I'll lose too much money on the deal. I need to get what my wheels are worth in order to buy some new wheels (most likely Deemax). Both wheelsets are in excellent condition.

My wheels:

Rims: EX823, Black
Hubs: King ISO, Navy
Spokes: DT 1.8/2.0, Black
Nipples: DT Alloy, Navy
Total Weight: 4.75lb

His wheels:
Rims: D521, Hard Ano
Hubs: King Disco, Black
Spokes: DT 2.0, Silver
Nipples: DT Brass, Silver
Total Weight: 5.0lb

Please vote for the poll!

My wheels and my buddies wheels are both lighter than Deemax. The thing is I need a 20mm front and King is out of 20mm Navy ISO fronts. Deemax are cheap and durable ('05's) and only weigh 5.4lb for the set (~1/2lb more than my current wheels).

I will not be keeping either of these wheels, I just want to get an idea of how much $$$ I might lose by trading my buddy before I sell them.

That's what I was thinking plus I have the newer King hubs but there really isn't much difference. I'm thinking like $40-$60 more for min on the open market???

D521's are pimp!

Whatever new fork I get once I sell my nixon I want to get 20mm so I want to build up a D721 front with 36 spokes (black DT) and since my rear wheel is beat (mucho flat spots) I want to build up a D721 36 black DT spokes on a Woodman Bill S/S disc hub.

By the way, why spend a ton of money on a king front hub? rear hubs I understand, but a front is basicly just an axel and barings. I just want something cheap and reliable like a diatech swinger. Very reliable, and only $60. Plus you can change it back to QR if you need to.

I had a stealth front hub and the bearings went out after a while. King's bearings r0XX0r. Deemax are interchangeable front and the rear can be set for Saint or regular bolt-on.

I just want to get a pre-built wheelset for once and see if I like it. The weight is good, the specs are good, etc. If I like them it will simplify things a lot.

I like the swinger hub, it's good but I value longevity a lot. Not saying the Diatech is cheap but I like to run what I know. Deemax hubs are supposedly redesigned for '05 so who knows...

If it is both your wheels...keep em !
I need a 20mm front hub so I have to get new wheels. Which setup is worth more/more desirable on the open market? That is the question and also by how much roughly in your opinion?

out yonder, round bout a hootinany
so yours are the ones with the 6 bolt hubs, his are the ones that use the adaptors?
what condition are his wheels in? as i remember, yours are mint since they were on a bike that didn't get used much. i think that's the biggest factor in resale value. personally i'd be very hesitant to buy wheels from someone i didn't know. seems to me like these are pretty damn equivalent wheelsets so long as they're in equal condition.

what i'd really want is your hubs and spokes with his nipples and rims. does that help your decision any? :p

Chaz, I'll tell my buddy you want his nipples! ;)

I agree that the value is similar. Especially if he even had black brass nipples and black spokes. The hubs really are no different. The weight is very similar and the function is identical, with the exception of slightly taller flanges on the ISO's. Alloy nips rock, you just have to use the correct spoke wrench and not torque on them.

Both wheels are mint and babied so condition is a mute point.
