I was on their site looking around and was wondering when is SC releasing this bike? It looks pretty sick from a frame standpoint. I might be getting rid of the Cortina for various reasons and moving to a hardtail.

Any info would be great :)

its a sweet frame. I like how the dropouts can be changed from vertical to horizontal.

I dunno, I don't think it's too fugly. At a $500 price tag it's not ubber expensive either. I mainly want something different as I ride mainly DH, but would like something more urban/street then my Cortina Joyride. Being able to switch the dropouts is a nice feature but I'm in it mainly because the thing looks like it turns on rails for 4x/urban/jumping.

I'd look into a Evil but they are a little more. I have enough parts to make a Jackel work but I'd make it single ring or use a DRS on it (if it'll take it) to just get a little more versitility out of it. I don't think one would be bad, 70mm stem, my shiver up front, EX721 wheelset, some hookworms or larson TT"s and saint/evil cranks etc... I have all the parts from my full suspension, I am just tired of breaking bearings on it. Not that they are hard to replace but it's like jesus, atleast on a hardtail I never broke anything on a constant basis.

Looks like a sweet bike though. IF I could find a Tazer (hardtail) I'd probably nab it but $500 for a new frame isn't bad.

why not consider the evil d.o.c. if you're looking at the $450-500 neighborhood?

I wouldn't mind a Evil at all. I dunno why the Jackel appealed, if the DOC is around the same weight then I'd have no argument.

I'll have to look into this some more, let me check Evil's site for specs :)

The DOC says it weighs 6.1 lbs
The Evil Imperial weighs 6.1 lbs
Jackal estimated frame weight * 6.9lbs

I emailed Santa Cruz to find out how much the Jackal weighs as I couldn't find anymore info.
