I think they are both trying hard to figure out who to toss under the bus, McCain or Palin, should the GOP loses.

It's ultimately Karl Rove's decision, but he is busy giving unbiased commentary for Fox.
They'll toss McCain under the bus. He's half in the grave... not worth additional investment. Palin is star material.

We can argue about the responsibility of the press to it's readership vs. it's responsibility to its sources, and/or the public's responsibility and culpability in making a news agency guilty of distortions or omissions a commercially viable enterprise ad infinitum, but don't you think McCain ought to vet these attacks more thoroughly? Or are they just red meat for the already decideds?
