weight wise you will save more going radial.

THEN going to online spoke calculator:
http://www.bikeschool.com/spokes/index.cgi

The only thing I'm missing is Hub Spoke Hole Diameter. The default is 2.5, and it seems like that's fine.

so, i enter all the info, and it's 231.2mm for 3-cross lace and 241.2mm for 4-cross. does that sound right ? so for 241.2, would i want 240mm or 242mm ? 241 is not available from what i can tell.

I would go for the 3 cross, cause when you do the 4-cross some of your spokes will run over the other on the outside of your flange.

Dex, why so short on the spokes? I'm not calculator master at all or anything, but I'm just curious since I just used DT comp 244's to build up my Alienations... got'em through bti.

I have just cut spokes down by hand and re-threaded them before, but that won't work with butted spokes...

the 232, 234, 236, enz. mm spokes are normal spokelenghts with 24" wheels (3 cross), not short at all... When you have a rim like the Sun MTX, this is the length you will need. If you could get your hands on Halo spokes, they make every spoke length (230, 231, 232, 233 enz.) and double butted. This is what i have on stock in my shop (Dutch Bike Shop)

I gotcha, yeah, depends on rim erd and flange spacing, etc..
I think I have like 238's or something on my old bfrs...
But have you seen how the alienation runaway is laced? (Which I believe is what Dexter is building up...) They have a "center-cross" pattern kind of like the G-sport Ribcage, where the spoke goes from one side flange to the opposite side of the rim... adding in just a hair more length to the spoke, that's why I was wondering how he is getting away with spokes that are apparantly almost a good 10mm shorter than the ones I used (different hub in my case though).

hmmm. what do you mean 'run over the other'? here's a pic of a 4x laced front 24" 48h wheel on my DK General Lee. all my other bmx wheels are 4x laced too.
