I'm not a big fan of their first past the post system up here. They never seems to get a majority govt.

Actually I'm 31.

But I'm not Canadian so I can't profess an encyclopedic knowledge of Canadian political history.

Perhaps I should have prefaced my comment about minority governments with 'in recent history' Particularly in light of the recent election when minority status quo (which the the PM had called dysfunctional) was returned.

The Canadian Conservative Party government is centrist at best compared to the US. Most of the country is quite happy that he cannot govern with an iron fist. Many voted Conservative only because the other 2 parties are about as useless balancing a budget as you can get. They are beyond fiscally irresponsible.

While Harper is a complete chode, he is a professional economist and is eons more qualified than the other candidates were to make sure we continue to run a surplus.

His more tyrannical (evangelical?) leanings will be resigned in by the house.
