A friend of mine sent in a frame to Jan that Jan sent him un-heattreated and it broke. Jan told us he'd have a new frame to Nate in 2 weeks its been a month and now Jan's MIA, how the hell can i get a hold of him, Nate is moving in 3 weeks and needs his bike

I'm sure Town (dhtahoe) can help you out on that one. Unless Jan already filed a restraining order against him. :D

Goddamnit another one? That motherfvcker sent out several of those things without getting them heat treated. Your friend is not the only one, not by a long shot. Everyone I know has the same disconnected numbers I had. I've been keeping my mouth shut about this but I know of a few other people who have had frames start to fold on them.

Give sherwood gibson (venatana) a call or see if you can get ahold of someone at anodizing inc. or Kinesis. Sending anything to Jan at this point would be a mistake. You should know that by now.

yup, his old business numbers and another number i had for him have all been disconnected. My friends front end folded and the rear end bent on a downhill run and the tire wore through the yoke on the chainstay. this was the 1st ride on the bike he did, he sent Jan the bike a week or so before Town broke news of the company folding, and a week or so ago all communication has stopped and all of Jans numbers have been disconnected :help: i really hope nate doesnt get totally shafted on this

geez thats criminal. I mean, you just dont *forget* to heat treat a frame, just like you just dont forget to weld it together and accidently ship off a bunch of loose tubes. Pure bait and switch, take the money and run....

i hate to say this, but maybe this finger deal of his is from mob-like Karma...

I don't know. The website said it was pretty serious...
Good bikes when made properly, but I'll admit he was fu***** with customers way before the finger incident and may well use the accident as an excuse.

Suckage.

ouch this sounds like there will be a lot of problems

in case it might help anyone, ive got a heat treatment facility connection here, done lots of frames and they do them for dirt cheap, around 20usd or under for t6 that needs to be done to frames, not sure how much it costs in the states but ive been told its several times that, normally process takes 2-3 days.
might be worth the shipping back&forth.

the problem is...

1. the frames are sent out untreated (probably didn't have the dough to pay for heat treating)
2. the unwitting sobs ride them & break/disfigure them beyond repair
3. send them back to the address Karpiel sent thm (i.e. black hole)

so not only are they out of $2k+, they're out of a frame too.

in my estimation, there's onlyl hope for folks who haven't ridden their "new" frames from Karpiel... after all the drama that's gone down in the past few months - who would still do business w/ this guy? Was he offering some great deals or what?

btw, if your frame isn't heat treated after welding, you'll know on the first ride.

The sad thing it seems if he didn't blow his $ on other stuff he'd probably be doing okay. Looking at the costs of material and parts, it would appear like he has a decent profit on each frame he builds. I'm figuring on him building 5-10 frames a month.
