Which fork to put in a M-pire?

Hi all,

I'm riding with a Nicolai M-pire... --> Nicolai
This frame needs a 200mm travel suspension fork to work at his best.

But the question is. Which fork to choose:
M 888
RS Boxxer WC
M Dorado 200 / 180
Fox 40

The 888 is to big for me. I like a low "cockpit". I'm not very tall and I want a race bike.
The boxxer?? I'm riding a boxxer wc with a integrated romic stem now. The fork is tuned by TFT and does a great job, but isn't long enough. The lenght of the fork is maximum 560mm from the axle till the lower bridge. What it needs to be is 580mm.
I measured the Dorado 180 and it's 560mm. To short!! But what about the SPV 200mm One. Good choice?
And the Fox 40? How about that? I think it's ugly and to bulky, but how is the performance?

Does anyone has other suggestions?

you like a low cockpit, but don't want a short fork that will provide exactly that? And you don't want an 888 because it's to tall, even though thats what your bike "requires". make up your mind here. I've seen plenty of m-pires with dorado's and boxxers, i not really sure why you think your bike needs a longer travel fork. maybe a 888 with lowrider crowns, or a lowerrise bar would do the trick for you. I can't imagine it's a geometry thing that requires the longer fork, with all the adjustments on that bike.

Well I'm not very tall... 1,78cm.. so that's the reason for the low handlebar position. But with a 04 boxxer in it, the bike is just to nervous... So a longer fork will help.
It's really a geometry thing, because when you're riding it on the lowest BB hight position, it has a headangle of 68degree(using a 04 boxxer). Well want want it to be is 66 degree.
But that's the problem. A longer fork will rise your handlebar.
I need a intergrated stem for lowering the handlebarheight. Im not sure which opion would be perfect.
A manitou dorado with integraded stem
A 888 with the go-ride kit
A 05 boxxer with integraded stem
Fox??

Well and I want performance!!

Get a fork that gives the steering geometry you want, and run a negative-rise stem instead of the integrated one. You might have problems with the stem clearing the crown, so it might take some trial-and-error. A stem shaped like an Atomlab stem might help.

I realize that if you like integrated stems, you might not find a separate stem as short as you like, but with your specific desires, you'll have to compromise somewhere. Good luck...

Forget the 200mm Dorado, - too many problems! I would wait and see how the Fox turns out, - simply curiousity, - but it might be really good and worth the wait.

7" is more than plenty for the front.

The Mpire sits pretty low especially under compression so I can't imagine how retarded it would feel like when ran with a "longer" fork than a Boxxer or Dorado. The lower the front end on the Mpire the better bec the bike really begs to be pushed hard on the front under hard cornering. Unless you're wheeling dropping every drop and stopping every section, then any fork will make you happy. I had ran both Slider plus and Dorado on my MPire and I like the Dorado better..not bec it's tall or short (I mean really, if you measure these kind of sh*t, you are compensating for something)..but bec it was a better fork. Threads like these with placebo measurements remind me of Acadian when he was still a geek. ;) But whatever makes you happy.

If you do a search, I posted my setup somewhere sometime ago. Slap it on and go ride!!

Well, the BB is allready very low. (and the Eye to eye distance is 222mm)

And Orven.... every body has his own preferences.... I like a slack headangle.. And I'm not to big myself... that's the problem(matching these factors for a ballensed set-up)

I'm a racer and not a "dropper and stopper kind of guy"...

My preference is a 05 Dorado.... Good choice?

888r would be the best fork for the m-pire. the fork is good for racing but also if you plan on doing any FR it can handle that as well. marzocchi is the best and longest lasting fork out there.

hey dont back that post with too much information ok?

i ran a jr.t on mine when i first got it(i was short on funds...its an expensive bike), and it felt too steep. I now have a boxxer team on it-feels a hell of a lot better.i say you go with the boxxer wc if you have the cash, and a longer crown maybe?
or romic crown?

Well, last seasen I rode with the Boxxer WC with the romic crown and TFT tuned!! For next season I'm looking for a new Fork....

This topic will give me some feedback, where I'll base my choice on.

I'd run Breakout Plus if I had the money right now... couldn't tell the difference between that and my dorado when I switched bikes with my teammate Andrew one weekend.
