hmm....so to expose the "lame factor" of your argument...there are SEVEN, no EIGHT TURNER DHR's....no stop...TEN TURNER DHR's (yes that # is accurate) at Windrock....none of which have had a single mechanical failure....one of which is a 2002.
So if we use your reasoning....??????
I have a 04 DH9 (one of the ones in question at Windrock) and I have pedaled around on some of the 5 er 8, or is it 9 of the DHRs at Windrock, plus one complete run on the 02 DHR and all I can say is they both are fast, but they both are different.
The DH9 is a long wheel base, plow over things, high speed difting turns, low bottom bracket mutha. It has a pure race breed geomtry thing going that excells on high speed courses. But don't let that fool you, it can be made to handle very good in tight, steep single track. The head angle is super slack which makes the bike feel VERY stable at speeds, but requires lots of body english at low speeds.
As best I can guess, the DHR is the opposite. It has a slightly steeper head angle, slightly higher BB, and much short wheelbase, which in turns makes it handle extremely well in steep, tight, technical terrain, but in turn can be made to handle extremely well and fast on high speed, rough terrain.
As far as toughness, I would say you won't break either, but if you do you will be dealing with the best in the business.
A definate plus goes to the Yeti for rear shock selection. The Swingers are much more reliable than the Romics right now. However I hear that the new DHX will fit the 05 DHRs, so next year that will be a wash.

Square tubing is much more hardcore than mono-cock, so the edge goes to the Turner there. However, I hear that simple single-pivot designs really suck at every aspect of bike riding except for maintenance, so the edge goes to the Yeti there.
I think the real answer here is to buy a Yeti, put the Turner sticker kit on it, and claim you're riding Turner's new prototype, the VPPDH11R.

You did bring up a good point. The brake jack on the 02 DHR was horrible. I think it had a lot to do with the shock setup, but that bike could not keep the rear wheel on the ground with appling the rear brake.
Yep, they are both dope.
And they also very different.
Ride them both and see which one suits your style.

But these 2 bikes have alot of happy owners, ya can rip
it on either.
actually the V10 is not like either....it's a mix of every design out there. I'll pass on it. I go with what JeremyR said. Both are from the best designers on the planet. Both are bomb proof. Oh, and that brake jack thing is called Doug riding a bike that was setup like a brick.

But I think the guy who said red is faster is a complete idiot. From my experience and independent FDA labratory studies...black is fastest by far....a full .09 seconds faster.
