Which Manitou shock for 4X?

I will be riding a haro x3 in semiPro for mountaincross next year. The bike is spec'd with a manitou minute, singletrack wheelset, truvativ bars-stem-cranks-chainguide, ultegra derailleur, road cassette, hayes brakes, and SDG saddle. I will be upgrading the rear shock to a manitou swinger air shock. I'm debating whether or not to get the 3way or the 4way. Things to consider...I have a smooth flowlike style and I'm not hard on bikes at all. When it comes to adjustments I usually just set and forget it. I honestly don't usually play around with the settings that much. I'm also trying to make my bike as light as possible.

What do yout think...

I'd say 4-way. You can tune main pressure, SPV pressure, and bottoming resistance. You can set it up to be one stiff, well pedaling ass end, perfect for mountain cross. Do you think I could come down and hit the track on my cruiser? Any plans for some DH trails at Lindsey Wilson this year?

Personally, I'd suggest the 3-way if your style is smooth like you say. No need to carry the extra weight if you dont have to.

Seems as if the bottoming resistance chamber would be a good necessity for 4x. I would be able to adjust the overall feel and stiffness of the shock to match my Minute up front. I think I could either get the 3 or 4 way and would be fine. But I think I would be less likely to kill a 4way.

Well, its been raining really bad here lately and the track is soaked. But if it was dry you could ride it for sure. How'd you know I rode for lindsey? You should come down and ride sometime.
As for downhill...Yeah we are working on 3different downhill places right now. We have one really nice place with several different trails with rock gardens, off chamber, ladders, drops... etc....

Charlie, I just got a Minute 100 for my Yeti DJ frame. I rode it once at Bigfoot before the rain hit and I like it awhole lot better than the Marz. DJer I used to have. That looks like a 130 version. How do you like it? I thought it would be too tall for me.

BTW, go hardtail and save the money on the rear shock. ;)

I love my minute. Its going to be great to match it with another manitou shock. Hows the course looking there? We had some riders there over the Christmas break after new years and they mentioned that it was terribly muddy. Yeti must be hooking the windrock area up...

Well, we have a local shop, Harpers, that carries them and Ben and myself are sponsered by them. Plus they totally rip.

The course is really muddy. The lower half, from the triple step down, is almost always dry due to sun exposure. But the top doesn't get much afternoon sun and it stays pretty moist. I kept it raked in the fall and that helped to keep it dry. We've had a few downed trees, but there aren't too many ruts and things should be in good shape for the spring once we dry out. I've got a trail in the woods behind the start hill thats full of jumps, hips and berms. Pretty cool stuff. No one around here will hit it other than me, so next time you guys are in town I'll have to show you.

Congrats on Semipro. I stepped up this year as well. More for my DH, but I'm going to try more MTNx races as well.

We'll, see how it goes. I bumped up after I won collegiate nationals in Dual Slalom. I beat a lot of semi Pros and pros as an expert at that race. A lot of people were mentioning to me that I should move up. Downhill is going to be a tough one.

Yeah, where ever you feel most challenged. I felt more inclined to get faster and have more fun in semi dh. Expert wasn't going to do it for me again this year. However, I bet you're in the right class, but don't get discouraged when you get paired with Herndon.

Man do you remember that Sugar race two years ago? The one in the mud and I didn't get any practice runs. My first race run was the first time I saw the course. I talked to you some, but I can't believe that was my first expert race and my first race in nearly 5 years.

Herndon? Ha he's got nothing on me. :stupid: I've been feeling pretty good lately. I'm going to the gym and getting in a lot of cross training this winter.

I remember that race. I was just a youngin' then. I'm still learning a lot. :dancing:

Yeah, for the first time in my life I'm in the gym as well. I working really hard no my upper body. I'm trying to ride as much as possible but with the Southern winter (rain) and not enough training partners I don't get on the bike as much as I'd like. But I did get to ride and race at Bootleg, NV a couple weekends ago. That was a eye opener.
