Which rear hub?

Need a new rear hub for my Cannondale Gemini DH frame (12x135 thru axle), but I'm having trouble deciding what to get.

Here are my options:

Ringle: Cheapest and heaviest. Currently have one on my hardtail and have been happy with it. Would have to wait a few weeks to get one.

DT Swiss Hugi FR: Pretty darn expensive, but readily available and also the lightest. Looks the best too.

Hadley: Price is on par w/ the Hugi hub when the cost of the axle conversion kit is taken into consideration. Would have to wait a few weeks to get one.

Hope Bulb: Price is on par with the Ringle, weight is on par with the Hadley. Once again, I would have to wait a while to get one.

Please give reasons for your choice on which hub I should get. Thanks.

Ben,

From Experience I like the Hope Bulb. I had gotten the QR one and wanted to switch it to 12mm TA. The kit was cheap and that hub is ubber simple and not super expensive. You have the price of the Ringle and the weight of the Hadley. I dunno how much better of a value you can get. Ti cassette, all sealed bearings, everything is just great about the hub.

That's my vote. :)

Need a 36 hole cuz I'm gonna re-use the rim I'm currently riding.

oh reasons...hmmmm
i have 5 rear hadley hubs....they all work GREAT.
i've had nothing but problems with ringle, still have all the broken/bent parts of the hubs laying around. i had a Hugi FR, the enagment doesn't seem like enough, and they are HEAVY. i still have a FR front hub, no adjustment on it, so when bearings become loose, thats it.
i've never owned Hope Hubs, but will only run their brakes...so...Hadley

i second the hadley. had one for year no maintance and no problems. it still feels like new. i had a bulb hub and the bearing never felt great and didn't seem a quality as hadley. as for the dt swiss hubs my friend broke 2 and then he got a hadley no problems since. he also broke the ratchet ring in to sun ringle hubs.

Ben, you should get the Hadley. 4 bearings, interchangeable axle. Heavy duty ratchering mechanism, its the shiz.

Ringle....ask Dave about his and look how big he is.... not a good sign of things to come.

If I were you, I'd go for the Hugi FR just because I always thought it was a really really sweet component, better than the others or not. Just one of those things I always wanted but never had the reason/money to buy.

Otherwise, I'd go Hadley. Great service, convertability, performance, durability. I have one on my trailbike. It sees a good amount of miles and lots of crappy conditions. I have yet to adjust it or anything. Engagement is quick enough, quality is top notch.

Go Hope Bulb DH - Best on the Market IMO! Enjoy! :thumb:

I have 2 sets of the Hope Bulb DH. They have been Bomb proof!
They just simply work awesome.
The Front is Convertible between QR - 20mm
The Rear Hub is Convertible between QR - 12mm

I'm having the same issue...although I actually want a 32h Hadley but no one has them in stock...I don't trust the Cannondale labeled hub that came with the frame......D

You shouldn't. Mine developed play in the bearings after one month of riding. It's a piece of junk.

And, FWIW, I'm gonna be getting a DT Hugi hub, cuz I discovered today that I can get EP pricing on DT hubs thru my shop, which makes it the cheapest option for me.

The weight at the hub is less important than weihgt at the tire. So if you're worried about weight, eliminate all of your static spokes, use xc tires, and don't put air in there, it's too heavy, use hydrogen gas.

The Hugi is by far the slowest-engaging hub on your list. 18 point ratchet, compared to 36 for the Hope and Ringle, and I guess 108 now for the Hadley? It'll definitely be a noticeable difference.

Graham thrashed his ringle' with no problem, i've been thrashing my hadley for a little bit with no problem (actually it hasn't come loose once yet which is suprising for a new hub), hadley is lighter and has a good rep, i'd go hit one of those in gold

however I don't know how that crack n' fail will hold up to local conditions, you might want to consider something a little different, mebbe an orange 223.

hadley is the only way to go. i have three of them and they are the only one that i have never seen break. your shop should also be able to ep a hadley direct from them. there is no extra charge for thru axle conversion if you order it direct.

Um, what are you talking about... the Cannondale frame seems oriented as a light weight DH bike, the conditions around here are all big jumps with not so forgiving trannies, do you think it could hold up to big ass gaps all the time? And I know that you'll be doing some overshooting and casing cause we all do a little stoutness might be worth it in the long run... and don't tell me a Gemini would hold up, there's a reason no one rides one around here.

So I heard about this new trend... it's called READING THE TITLE OF THE THREAD. I wasn't asking for frame advice, I was asking for hub advice.

lol, damn I guess input isn't wanted on this forum.

I thought you were my buddy dexter from college, I forget who he posts as dude, where do you ride at?

You won't catch me on a Gemini anytime soon though, but I do have a Hadley hub and it's solid.

Come on How, input is wanted, but only the requested input...

Anyway, out of that bunch I prefer Hadley, been beating on one for more than a year and no problems. Hugi would be my second choice but no personal experience. Have had problems (or friends have had problems) with ringle and hope.
