Blue velvet is by far the gnarliest trail at whistler. I'm pretty sure I have stress fractures in my wrists and spine and I've only ridden that trail once. Too rough. Too much blue and not enough velvet.
One of the worst trails on the mountain, I hate that thing.

Yep, we're there for 2 weeks this year. Staying at creekside... $400/night is outta my budget!!
That's exactly my point, everyone was laughing at 12k for our house but w/ 7-9 ppl 8 nights it works out around $200 a night for a really nice place, a giant garage for storage, and a super easy pedal into the village...

Yeah man, I'm not kidding. When I've ridden sections of that trail, the whole thing is the "the washboard section"
If you're not doing Goats, there's that compulsory bermed switchbacks section that goes from Original Sin/Blue Velvet before you can get into In Deep or whatever. Those corners are rough as hell on bad days. I think Goats Gully is actually easier on your hands

That's exactly the section I was talking about. It's much rougher than the rest of the trail.

You can actually just ride the road above Blue Velvet down to In Deep in that section. You can also ride it to cut into the lower part of Goat’s Gully as well. The lower part isn’t as absolutely heinous either as it doesn’t have that one hard sharp rocked corner.
Or, you know, you could just ride full Goat’s Gully or that other trail called “Suck it Up, Buttercup”.

Where exactly is this? At the beginning of the video around :08 seconds, what's the trail to the left. I believe it goes down a rock slab with a small drop at the bottom?

After the first section of OG sin (when you get to that big uphill to the viewpoint of OG sin) you cross that road. Go left and that closed trail drop at the beginning of the video (that he passes) is on your left pretty immediately and then you just go down the hill further for that rock move and it’ll eventually put you at that dreaded section of blue velvet talked about above right at the filthy ape.

Was there last year for 5 days, me and the boys boxed the bikes up, flew, and stayed at some place near the mcdonalds.
Tip: if/when you do the 'top of the world', dont go slow, but take your time and enjoy the view. We bombed it and we were kind bummed hah

Planning on a 2020 trip

[Rock] ME [hard place]

4 of us are going in 3 weeks. We're psyched! 2 are bringing enduro (27.5 and 29). Myself and the other, DH bikes!

I think?

We all have been there twice before. We all bought the 5 day pass. One of the Endurbros brought his enduro last time and ripped. But the other feels his newest bike can do it all. We're talking of getting outside the park for a day or 2. I'd like to rent that day or 2.

In the park I'd like to ride the trails that we always miss- the less traveled trails that are more DH oriented. We wanna do TOTW, Khyber and RDS. Creekside is also a priority. On the day away though we're thinking ITTM to LOTS, Kill Me, thrill Me or something similar. I know it's not rocky and the Spartan can handle it. But 5 days in the park on the more techy stuff just makes more sense on the DH bike and rent an enduro for a day. But to ride everywhere on one bike would be great too.

WHAT DO I DO???

Bring your damn dh bike like a man. Top of the world leads right into ride don't slide and creekside has a gondola.

Rent a trail bike if you want to go pedal something for one day.

Going to whistler to ride the trailbike stuff when you own a dh bike is fucking idiotic.

This. TOTW to Ride Don’t Slide is the most fun I’ve ever had on a bike. And there are more trails on Creekside now apparently.

Misfire is a new trail that goes down to Creekside that’s really good. It looks like somebody drug a rake down the mountain, through the woods, and put up some trail signs. :rockout:

25 years in and they finally figured it out.

You didn't catch your fanny pack on any branches did you? Friggin liability those things. And not just at the bar after riding.

Nah, it fell off on Blue Velvet.

And, we confirmed (again) that Goats Gully is easier on the hands than BV.

RDS isn't what it was back in 2010/11... rode it last year and its still rowdy but no where near the dear-mother-of-god levels it used to be. I found Delayed Fuse was worth a spin down. BCs was good if a bit janky as well.

We rode it two years ago. One of the locals was telling us it built by trials moto guys years ago. I think it was 2 years ago. It was the only trail on that side until you got almost to the bottom, and then something else split off. They were working on some other trails then. Either way, I was really digging that side of the mountain.

Man I have to get un-lazy and get up there. I just can't be bothered to drive the hour and 45 min.
Dude, my team!

I fucking hate driving through vancouver. I'll just stop there next time and call da peach and make fun of his tires. Driving out of vancouver sucks! I want to just kill myself every time I enter that city. I feel ya bro. Last time I actually considered driving through Lillooet to avoid the panic attack.

Half the drive to Whistler is the drive through the city. You also have to plan to stay in Whistler until about 6-7pm, because trying to drive back into the city during rush hour is mental. One time it took me over 3 hours to get home!!

Cross at the truck crossing instead of at Peace Arch. It’s the exit before the peace arch on the I5. Take highway 17 to the 1 West and that’ll take you to 99 just north of the city. You have to pay the small toll for crossing the Port of Mann bridge, but it’s a much faster route and there is no chance of getting lost in Vancouver because the 99 randomly changed streets and had a tiny, tiny sign saying this.

As for Ride Don’t Slide, it’s a very poor representation of its former self. I still ride it when I ride TOTW, but I would not push up from Garbo do to it anymore as I used to do. It’s been neutered and rerouted so heavily, I wouldn’t even consider it the same trail for a good 60% of it. Still somewhat fun though. Just not the same.

That border crossing had us questioning whether to just stay in Bellingham next time. On the way back from Whistler, we sat in the queue for 2 hours. And, another car of folks got less lucky with line choice and it took them 3 hours just get through the border check point.

No more toll on the Port Mann, our current socialist/communist government in BC cancelled the tolls. So you guys save a couple bucks.

Anyone that actually drives through downtown to get from the border to Whistler is an idiot. But if you have to at least make a side trip through the DTES so you can see all our junkies.

I use it for example to pop across the border to pick up bikes I buy from ColoRADo.

For Nexus, don’t you have to interview in person near the border? That makes it tough for out of town folks to obtain.
