Same question and same self-answer, I am afraid.
Rumors about shorter/bit cheaper passes didn't come true, so far.

Yup. Lift pass per day is around 50 to 60 bucks. Season pass is around 600 I think. That's only around 10 days of riding.

if i were going to whistler for vacation, i wouldn't wanna sit around till mid afternoon to ride, but that's just me.
There is a whole world of riding outside the bike park! ;)

Plus you get three full days in the park as well as the same price as a triple play for additional days.

Having said that, myself, wife, and son all had full seasons passes last year....:D

With transport there is.
All you need is a trailbike. The trails outside the park are amazing and completely different to the park trails - to the extent that most DHers who stay here more than one season end up riding little bikes more than big bikes. Half an hour's drive in either direction (Squamish or Pemberton) and you've got trail networks that have to be seen to be believed, with everything from undulating terrain to all day epics, but I'd almost guarantee that you won't ride everything in Whistler in a single season - no chance at all in 3 weeks. There's just so much stuff.
