For years there has been much interest for us to host a very unique race that showcases all of our terrain. This is what we are thinking from suggestions and comments on another Ridemonkey thread.
The Whiteface Super D + and The Whiteface Uphill/Downhill Mt. Bike Race

* Both races would have a mass start.
* For the Uphill/Downhill Race you will have the choice of solo or team.
* Race Date Sunday June 19, 2011.
* Cost will be either the special online 3 day lift pass (same as a 2 day pass of $65.00) or 10 bucks if you just purchase a day pass for $35.00.

The Town of Wilmington has been planning a huge Bike Festival that same weekend with most activities being totally free including, bike films, demo bikes, beer and barbecues, special guests for our jump jam and much more. We are even planning a hot pepper eating contest at one of the parties! I hope you folks at Chile Pepper Bikes don't mind us using your hot pepper eating contest? Sounds like fun!

Very cool. For those that know more about the trails please chime in.

For the course you've outlined for the Super-d, what do you think the times will run? Off the start, is there something to thin the riders a bit before the singletrack?

Section 1:
This proposed course would start at the bottom of the new chair lift for Lookout Mountain. This would be approx. a 1/4 mile climb on the service road or the last 5 or 10% of the the uphill portion of the Uphill/Downhill Race. This would thin the crowd out before entering the single-track, or we could just move the start a little lower if need be. Approx. 100 to 150 feet of climbing.

Section 2:
Enter the woods on the fast part of last years 5 K DH course. Right where the wood twists you into the woods. Approx. 500 foot descent.

Section 3:
At this point you are still above mid station. Traverse across (bikers right) to the Slickrock Trail. Approx. 1/4 mile with very little elevation drop and some pedaling.

Section 4:
Smooth Granite slabs in and out of the single-track. Killer! Some cool bridge work to super steep section to stream crossing. Approx.700 foot descent.

Section 5:
Just after the stream crossing you will make a 90 degree right turn on the service road. This section is mostly flat with a couple of very short uphills. Pedal past our pump track and just after you go under the gondola you make a hard right into the woods. These 2 single-track trails are not only some of nicest trails on the mountain they also take you right back to the base area. Approx. 100 to 150 feet of climbing and 400 foot descent.

I am guessing pro/expert times to be in the 15 to 20 minute range. Sport/beginner maybe 20 to 25 minutes. And if you enter the Uphill/Downhill Race add 30 to 45 minutes!
It would be cool to see how many could actually break the 1 hour mark. Maybe most?

Very cool. I wonder if that 100ft of climbing will be enough to thin the crowd to prevent bottlenecks... guess we'll find out! :)

Just thought about this today... is this happening this year?
