I believe it is a European word. There are plenty of these camps with hiking (or biking) distance of each other. Actually, I believe they are for for winter skiing.

They have Yurt Like Structures (tm) on St John, USVI.

They're pretty awesome and if it wasn't for the fact that I was on a boat, they would have been a nice place to stay.
