hmm. as one of the trackback links to that story noted it makes sense -- those red states are smaller, less populated ones that are therefore overrepresented because their two senators are proportionally more powerful than their allotment of representatives in the house. overrepresented ==> bacon.

Did the Democrats try expanding their base or campaigning outside of places/states they traditionally campaign. Broaden their appeal maybe?

Here's something odd ...

In WA - a "pillaged" blue state ;) - we don't pay state income taxes - federal only (not counting, of course, all the other bloody taxes they hit you with - car tabs, sales, gas etc)...

How many of the "pillager" states also pay a state income tax?

I don't think I have any kind of a point...but if I did, I think it would be that in the end, most of us are of the pillaged type, regardless of what state we live in ;)

most do. the only ones who don't are:

tennessee
florida
south dakota
alaska
wyoming

so if you live in one of those states it's doubly good.
