I had one and loved it.

We're working on some new packaging designs and the designer is usually one design element that I always refer to as the spirograph, he just doesn't know that's what I call it.

The long thin cogs were the hardest.


Wasn't it the worst when you changed pens & cogs for the final part of the design you were working on, and the damn cog slipped and made your cool line design jump?

I loved that thing when I was a kid. Those pens went to shyt real fast, and then you could never find a ball point that would fit the little holes.

Do they still make the Spirograph?

The coolest drawing trick I remember as a kid was parabolic line design.

2D stuff is pretty boring though. I did origami extensively instead. Some of my favorite geometrics were the dodecahedron, hyperbolic parabola, and rotating tetrahedra. I made all three at work during a origami binge I had one week at work - crappy camera phone shot:
