wfnx, the big 'alternative' radio station in the boston area, is having some sort of contest to see what the listeners rate as the top 50 'alternative' releases of all time. i happen to have heard a promo about this while scanning the radio, since my mp3 player died.

you have to vote for 10 of a pre-selected list of 200...and what horsecrap this list is...pretty predictable, and sad.

The "alt" station here likes to claim to be independent (whilst taking jabs at clear channel stations in the area) and alternative, even though X96 is owned by these a large corporate media company called Simmons. Really fvcking annoying.

Yes, their music sucks. I haven't listened to the radio in months...it pleases me.

i had to laugh at their inclusion of the 1st stooges record and 3 X records...gotta say i've never heard any of those songs on the air. same w/ joy division's _Closer_...

maybe i'll hear 'atrocity exhibition' on the way home tonight.

i'll have a greater chance of running over a unicorn.

HA! The local "corporate alternative" radio station here did a list of the top alternative bands a while back...I only remember that the local KC listeners voted Nirvana and Greenday as #1 and #2. It gave me a chuckle and I'm not really into music all that much.

Paul's Boutique has to go down in history of being one of the best albums ever. I wore that cassette out.

steve, SST was not paying enough $ to the 'alternative' stations to get any airplay. take a look at the 200 listed...are there any truly indie records listed?
