with the exception of the japanese, we seem to be continuously stumbling over ourselves to apologize for strom thurmond, abu-graibh, various civil-rights violations, & other foibles, while this balance is underrepresented elsewhere in the world.

i never hear/read apologies from Malaysia's PM for anti-semitic remarks, various state sponsors of terrorists, neglect & relegation of aboriginese (sp), slobodon melosevic, african nations for the mistreatment of their folk, & on & on.

perhaps we should take a lesson from the world & just do the job sans mea-culpas? Everyone knows we can kick ass. Should this be the dawn of "do-as-i-say", and pick up the pieces later?

Because appologizing is how other will "respect" us.

I am in a agrumentantive mood today everyone. I appollogize but In the UN thread(s) I am serious. It is not holier than thou type talk either. Why should the US stick their neck out more than onyone else........

and appologize later.

Terrorists haven't appolgized for 9/11 and offered recouperations.(SP?). The UN fails to act to uphold it's own rules for leaving Saddam in power. The US appologizes for doing what teh UN wouldn't/couldn't/

Sorry $tinkle.....highjacking thread me thinks. :( ;)

well, he meant it... nothing to apologize for.

But I hear ya, why do we apologize so much? Perhaps it greases the wheels?

You have to ACT to have something to be sorry about.

Oooooo I like that one! ;) I have a thing about sitting around and doing nothing......like I do with RM all day. ;)

ohh, c'mon, those apologies are just political hand-washing.
they might or might not be sorry, but anyway, none of those apologies keep things from happening again.

its a rethorical apologize. so, they truly are necesary, but not because they are really sorry and need to show a deep concern and trouble. but because they need to clean their faces when the chit hits the fan.

true. but in the u.s.'s case, it often is higher ups apologizing for the actions of "rogue elements" as in abu gharib, because they want to separate themselves politically from the fallout resulting from the event.

also, $tinkle, what news sources do you read? perhaps american newspapers simply don't carry the analogous, unnewsworthy apologies by the french, spanish, etc.

google news is my 'tap root'; not so much for their vast span of sources, but rather the page almost always loads in under 1 second. Great caching.
