Oh, and:

Answer a) Actually quite a lot of them can, they're just not making headlines like the others. Look at the numbers of people actually attending these protests - they're not that high.

Answer b) (For the others) Because they're religious fundamentalist idiots.

Something I heard earlier this evening about Syria trying to prove to the rest of Islam that it's the heartbeat of the Muslim world and everyone should follow their example...

I swear if the human race is wiped out from a nuclear war started over cartoons, it was probably for the best because we are truly hopeless.

Reading that article about "reformation" in Islam, I didn't realize they viewed the Koran as many of our KJV only fundamentalist Christians here view the Bible.......scary to say the least.

i personally don't have any islamic friends, so it is hard for me to view things from their perspective. this website has been interesting reading, even though i imagine it's mainly comprised of young muslims in the US.

I've had one muslim friend that I can think of. He was a turkish guy, probably about fourty. He used to tell me story's that always started "in my country" and usually ended in someone gettin shot ie: " in my country if someone sleep with your wife, you shoot them, then your wife", but then he went on to say you usualy wound up gettin shot by the family of the person you shot, and it just keeps goin round in circles

When I went to university in West London, I knew dozens of Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus and so on. Guess what? The vast majority of them were completely normal.

Top Afghan Islamic Group Calls for End of Riots

Wednesday, February 08, 2006

KABUL, Afghanistan — Afghanistan's top Islamic organization on Wednesday called for an end violent protests over drawings of the Prophet Muhammad, as police shot four protesters to death to stop a crowd from marching on a U.S. military base in the southern part of the country.

"Islam says it's all right to demonstrate but not to resort to violence. This must stop," senior cleric Mohammed Usman told The Associated Press. "We condemn the cartoons but this does not justify violence. These rioters are defaming the name of Islam."

Other members of Afghanistan's Ulama Council went on radio and television Wednesday to appeal for calm.

Hundreds rioted outside the U.S. military base in the southern city of Qalat on Wednesday, throwing rocks at Afghan police. Police tried to clear the crowd by firing shots in the air, then were forced to fire into the crowd, said Ghulam Nabi Malakhail, the provincial police chief.

Four people were killed and at least 20 were wounded, he said.

The protesters then set fire to three fuel tankers that were waiting to deliver gas to the base, Malakhail said. He said U.S. troops fired warning shots into the air.

A U.S. military spokesman, Lt. Mike Cody, said he had no details on the incident.

Eleven people have been killed in the past week as thousands have taken to the streets in a dozen Afghan cities and towns to march against the cartoons, which have been reprinted in various European media after first appearing in a Danish newspaper in September.

The drawings — including one depicting the prophet wearing a turban shaped as a bomb — have touched a raw nerve among Muslims. Islam is interpreted to forbid any illustrations of Muhammad for fear they could lead to idolatry.

Elsewhere on Wednesday, about 300 Palestinians attacked an international observer mission in the West Bank city of Hebron and tried to set one of the buildings on fire in a protest against the cartoons.

Sixty members of the mission were inside at the time, said Gunhild Forselv, a spokeswoman for the Temporary International Presence in Hebron, or TIPH, which serves as a buffer between Israeli settlers and Palestinians in the volatile city.

Eleven Danish members of TIPH left more than a week ago after protests against the cartoons began sweeping across the Muslim world, Forselv said.

The protesters chased away outnumbered Palestinian police stationed outside the mission, Forselv said. Reinforcements were called in to quell the disturbance.

Indonesia's foreign minister said Wednesday that radical groups around the world were exploiting public anger over the cartoons.

"The cartoons have hurt the Islamic community, so it has added to ammunition for (global) radical groups to exploit the situation and the whole thing has got out of proportion," Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda told reporters.

The heads of the United Nations, European Union and the world's largest Islamic group issued a statement Tuesday also urging an end to the deadly protests.

"Aggression against life and property can only damage the image of a peaceful Islam," said the statement released jointly by Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan and the EU chief Javier Solana.

In Copenhagen, Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen showed no sign of diverting from his government's stance that it cannot apologize for the actions of an independent newspaper, as demanded by governments in several Muslim nations.

Fogh Rasmussen called the protests "a growing global crisis," as Iran suspended all trade and economic ties with Denmark.

The Afghan protests have involved armed men and have been directed at foreign and Afghan government targets — fueling suspicions there's more behind the unrest than religious sensitivities. Some senior Afghan officials have said they believe Al Qaeda and the Taliban could be behind much of the bloodshed.

"This is something that really upset Afghans," said Joanna Nathan, senior Afghanistan analyst at the International Crisis Group, a Brussels-based research institute. "But it is also being used to agitate and motivate the crowds by those against the government and foreign forces" in Afghanistan.

There were several other small protests across Afghanistan on Wednesday, including one in Kabul. Hundreds of university students, including women, marched peacefully through the capital, chanting "Death to the Danish! Death to Americans!"

More than 1,000 people also rallied Wednesday in Muslim-majority Bangladesh's capital, burning Danish and Italian flags. There were no immediate reports of violence.

Because all Muslims suck. And lets be real here for a moment, I have YET to ever even here of a "normal peaceful Muslim."

This is my opinion, founded over centuries of proof in the Muslim culture and behavior. But OMG, lets blame the Templar's for everything. For the record, I am a Night Templar. (Henceforth my RM name)

So the question is, cake, or death?

I've been to Oman, Kuwait, and Bahrain and met literally hundreds of peaceful normal Muslims. As a matter of fact in all my time in those places I never once saw a Muslim so much has raise their voice. Of course that was 20 years ago, before we went over there and "liberated" them and made everything better by spreading democracy.

I've met quite a few normal peaceful Muslims. Some of them are really good people. I've yet to personally meet any radicals.

Same brush used to describe Christians.....or NASCAR, or the south, or the yankees, or the Philadelphia eagles, or poor poor poor Terrel Owens...jeese he is SO misunderstood....

And just remember...because there is proof of the holocaust, it can't be proved. So, the retaliation of a cartoon depicting an event they say never occurred is quite interesting...

The logical fallacies are abound my friend, and after the incident of the cartoon, I am employing my knowledge and interactions with muslims in my life time to stereotype Why, because, muslims, peaceful or otherwise will find a reason, ANY REASON, to engage individuals who are not muslims, simply "just because."rememeber, I know everything, henceforth my being a know-it-all. :p

And remember, the stereotype was created by the muslims themeselves. In all of the foray of violence over a cartoon, where in fact are the peaceful muslims? I've not seen one.

I will however concede the press will only post news worthy reports, written or broadcast. However, enough is enough. Judaism is not the only religion. Christianity is not the only religion. Muslinism ;) is not the only religion.

Bottom line get over it.

I must go repent now with my bible, coran, scotch, crack pipe and alter-girl weekly and demonic heavy metal CD's now, while poking fun at all the fags and dikes.

Did I miss offending anyone yet? I don't want to offend a group that has not been offended. If I forgot to offend a group, please forgive me, I meant no offense in forgetting to offend you.

Oh crap, there goes someone driving an American made import....time for me to find them and call them a job steeling American union gouging traitor...

Oops, ran out of paint, time for a new brush....uh oh, someone won't like my selection of paint, acrylic, oil, water color, rest assured, SOMEONE will be offended.

Oh yeah, I offended myself for not having stereotyped myself...oh jeese, I'm such an asshole!

:D :p

I don't know the exact population of Muslims in the world, but I'm guessing it's well over 2 billion. If you add up all the violent protesters around the world (there are peaceful demonstrations everywhere that are far outnumbering the violent ones) I'm gonna ballpark you are looking at MOST 2 thousand violent protesters.

Any math gurus here wanna figure out that percentage?

No math guru here but I would say it is probably a similar percentage to Americans who participate in post sporting event rioting.

;)

An attempt to point out the fact your attempting to calculate. The point I'm trying to make is that while the stats are essentially the same, what makes the percentage skew against the Muslims is the radicals that have a huge impact on the world, and there cowardice in their tactics....and now the nuclear threat......the radicals are starting to microwave their food.....whats next?

Main point, complacency in our country is rampant, and is causing the press to have a field day with whatever it is they want to have a field day with....

jeese, I think I want to start a riot because Jennifer Aniston and Brad divorced.....

And what about those damn communists!

LOL!!!

Yeah, but in their defense, there's nothing more offensive than a referee blowing the game with a bad call.
