So where, exactly, do these comments enter into the discussion?Originally posted by LordOpie
out of all the forms of riding, it does appear that the worst attitudes come from the DHers. I'm not saying any of y'all, but open your ears and eyes and judge for yourself.
The worst violators of trail rules, trail safety and public relations where i'm at are easily and by far the DHers. No no, not all, but it does appear that statistically, that group has the largest proportion of violators.
Funny....the DHers I ride with good mannered on the trails. I think because they are used to getting a bad rap they do their best to set a good example around others.Originally posted by LordOpie
DHers suck!

If you have a problem with DH'ers lack of respect, that's fine, but that's not what anyone is arguing, nor is it what jackson stated, so you're not "backing him up" at all. You're flinging a random comment into the fray and claiming it's on topic...
Hey, I'm the last one to worry about the thread going off topic, but at least don't claim it's on topicOriginally posted by LordOpie
besides, in true monkey fashion, you're way outta line worrying about a thread going off topic

To me the worst trail safety violators are the roadies turned xc racers....they are just plain rude!
I agree and disagree, I think all aspects of riding can be most extreme when the person is really pushing themself. In Road, XC, DH, and DJ you can severly injure yourself. Unfortunatly everyone feels the need to elevate their sport so they have to ignore the tough aspects of the other competing sports. Road Riding is tough, so is XC and you wear lycra...PRO DH racers wear lycra...does that take away from what they do?Originally posted by Westy
I am mainly an XC rider but have some limited experience in road and downhill. IMO road riding is the most extreme. You suffer from all the elements, the smallest bumps beat the crap out of you, you suffer like a dog from the climbs, the severity of injury is pretty damn bad due to the potiential high speeds and close riding, the training and disciplin required to compete is incredible not to mention the fricken cars. I know of more roadies who have been seriously injured than any other type of sports biking or not.
Yes Spandex should be illegal in cycling.........unless of course it's on a female cyclist:evil:Originally posted by Motionboy2

Sorry, I just reread the biker bi-laws and you are right! Looks like Lycra actually does take away from what the rider does! Who Knew?!Originally posted by Serial Midget

where are ya???
i must admit, it took me quite a while to wear lycra. Mtb shorts on a roadbike simply don't work... tears up my skin. I can no longer wear non-lycra while roading. l And now I'm tempted -- not yet -- to wear lycra when I'm mtb'ing too.Originally posted by Serial Midget

In all truth... I have respect for anyone riding any type of bike on any type of terrain when they could be sitting on the couch watching porn (though there is a time and a place for porn)... even the old dude in MMcG's DH photo essay from this weekend. Riding is good, period.
I've never tried DH, but I'd love to. I'd love to get down to pkill for some moderately lowlevel DHing... at least until I get the feel for it. I've watched some very modest DH, and I've seen some pretty crazy chit on OLN. It does seem to require a very different skillset than does true XC riding (or rigid SS for that matter)... but I do have a great deal of respect for DHers. It's gotta be brutal on your body, regardless of how much travel you have.
I am glad that you disagree with yourself and agree with me insteadOriginally posted by Westy

I think the real men (and women) are those who climb... who have to struggle to keep traction just as hard as they fight to keep the cranks spinning - and that's on the EASY parts of the climb. [/B]
Dude... read the rest of the thread. I was trying to stir up some good talk. Scroll up the page just a bit and read my other posts in this thread - "Riding is good, period."Originally posted by Leethal

I'm in total agreeance. In order for DH or XC to compare, bears should have to jump out at you once in a while.Originally posted by Leethal

I have had bears in the trail before, I have had deer jump out at me. Then I moved to colorado and I have just seen snakes.Originally posted by LordOpie

Brother, you need to go to Waterton Canyon, on the jeep road just before the single-track, i've seen big horn sheep, elk, and a 4' black bear! The scariest was the deer... friggin' pack of 'em ran in random directions, some at me. Saw a rattler on Green Mt.Originally posted by Motionboy2

Why does everyone who rides a freakin bike think that THEY are more extreme than others who ride?Originally posted by jacksonpt
I don't get it... How hard is it to put 8" of travel under you, lean back, and hold on? I definitely respect people who do it on a hard tail, but with a bunch of squish at each end, c'mon. Then to top it off... they hop in a Jeep or on a ski lift and get a ride to the top??? gimma a break.

I have highlited the portion of your query that explains everthing.
YOU THINK.
Why is YOUR opinion more valid?.
I Ride both, but unlike yourself I don't subscribe to the ridiculous notion that DHing on a full suspension bike is Easy.
It is not, it is however MUCH faster.
Some people like the speed, and lets face it, no matter how bad of a fall you can take DHing on a hardtail, the massive increase in speed on a full suspension bike makes the falls that much worse..
I suggest you step down from your "hardtail/XC pride" soapbox and think before you speak.
