Why do people ride so early in the morning?

Why do people get up on sundays or any day on the weekend for that matter so damn early? It's the weekend! your supposed to be sleeping in :mumble: I usually don't get in till 3/4am so usually riding before 11 just doesn't happen..not that i ride trails much anyway. It just seems uncalled for cuz most people don't stay out past 2ish (at least people i've rode with) because they are tired or some b.s.....OBVIOUSLY! you woke up early as ****.

rant over.

Agreed... especially in this season of cold mornings. The only good reason I've ever ridden in the morning is because I have to work later in the day. However, there are those people out there that get up early every morning, and can't break the habit so drastically on the weekends. To them I say "get up early, but wait for the rest of us before you go on a ride... go read a book until we're awake!" :)

I love the mornings... it's usually cool, the air is still and fresh, and there's not as many people out. I now get up rather early, 5:30am, for work, and that routine has flowed over to my weekends. Where I am, I have to travel for 2hrs to get to decent trails, so if I'm going to spend that much time in transit, I want to get a decent amount of riding done for the day... alas, all my friends are slackers and always wanting to meet up after lunch (the live closer to the dirt), meaning I only get a few hours riding in before having to head home again. And when travel time > riding time, it makes for a cruddy day.
I'd much rather get up at 7, meet at 10, and ride all the way until 5, than meet up at 1pm and only get half a days riding in. But then again, I like my enduro riding!

It is just an awesome feeling going to the track early if the weather is good. Ride for a couple og hours and then discover that you still have the whole day left to ride...

If ya' get out and ride in the morning, you get back, take a shower, and you've still got the whole day ahead of you.. It's a great feeling!

Wake up early, grab some breakfast, hit the trails and when I get back, my roommate is just waking up. It's like adding a few hours to the day just for riding.

On that subject, wouldn't it be great if we could extend the day to 27 hours and have those extra hours be dedicated entirely to riding, every day?

for me? easy. on my days off during the week it lets me get to a trailhead without getting stuck in commuter traffic. it means empty trails much of the time. it means beating some of the heat/thunderstorms in the summer. it means riding on frozen stuff rather than sloppy muck in the winter. it means i get the rest of the day to do whatever. on the weekends, most of the above is true as well. weekends on crowded trails are MUCH nicer if you can get there and be done just as other people are just showing up to the parking area......

you an always take a nap afterwards ya know.......

Jdm, you're in MD/DC. If you want to ride mtns with actual slope you have to drive, at least N to Fredneck or W to Front Royal. That eats up 1-2 hours' driving time. The sun sets these days at 4 in the mtns. Add it all up, ride early or...ride street.

For the most part, I also feel a hell of a lot better physically when I wake up early and go ride, instead of sleeping in and then getting up. I'm more energetic and less sluggish in the morning. Plus, like said above, the fresh air rocks! Then I can be back by 12, get some lunch, and crash if I feel like it.

I have to make sure the jumps are repaired from all the moto conservationists so that I can ride them by the afternoon. Plus beating people with shovels in the head with moto helmets takes time to get to the creamy center. It really is pretty time consuming sometimes. Best to get a head start.

The reason is simple, so we can ride.

I live 30 minutes from frederick.

my point is...im not a morning person, i'd rather sleep in! I always ride street to the weeeee hours of the night. Everytime I ride trails with people we don't ride long...esp. at the shed, some baby always hurts themselves :nopity: so

Come on, suck it up and get your hungover ass out of the sack! Your buddies are waiting!!

Just kidding. It's a choice among priorities.

If you choose to stay out late, that's cool but don't expect people to wait around for you to sleep it off, especially if they left a little early the night before specifically 'cuz they want to ride before noon the next day. Personally these days I'd rather stay out only til about 1 or 2 and be able to ride for most of the next day, but to each his own. But I hear ya. I have riding pals that want to leave at like 7 am, and I want to go at 9 or 10, which is still kinda early for a weekend. It's not like I want to sleep all day but to them I'm a slacker...

Early mornings still have that cool "time stands still" feeling of very late nights. The roads are empty, so are the trails. The world is new and clean, it just feels good to be out there. With that said, I usually sleep in but when I do get up and hit it it feels great! Daylight losing doesn't help either. I really like summer afternoon rides but in the winter the early bird gets the worm.

Or build for 7 hours, ride for one.
one of these days, we might actually get in more then 2 runs!

my weekends are made for losing sleep, not catching up on it... that's what weekdays are for. there's nothing like going to bed drunk at 3am on a fri/sat night and getting up at 7am to hit the trails ALL day (even if you are just building ;)). i "catch up" on sleep the rest of the week by getting to bed by 12-1am and getting up for work between 6-7am.

sleep is for the week. no, no... sleep is for the weak!

It can be really hard getting out of bed, especially in winter time when it says minus something celicus outside, - put when hitting the first jumps and drops in the morning it is just sooo nice !

Word! Whatever happened to riding as a mind-altering experience? Sleep deprivation is a proven method of hallucination....what better way to trailride?
