I can connect to the wifi network but cant get on the web or even ping

New Compaq presario f767nr
it came with Vista home
I formatted & installed xp pro w/sp3
compaq didnt include a driver cd or has any xp drivers available online
pita but I found most drivers
I can surf/ping when I plug in a network cable and set up it w/my lan settings
wifi network is good (other computes are using it)

Is the wifi card picking up an IP address through DHCP or is it a static network? Can you ping the gateway IP? Sounds to me like you may be connected to the network but don't have a valid address on it or some of the settings are incorrect.
