How do I get my computer sound out of both the speakers and the optical out? As far as I can see it is either one or the other. My old XP allowed this.

Wha? I didn't build up the computer, I bought it already assembled. The optical out works but only if I set it as the default but then the speakers don't work.
I still haven't figured this out. Can anyone help?
Had this problem a few weeks ago; sound was working fine on Linux but no sound at all on windows 7.
...then i put the cable in another soundcard output and it works fine now. Microsoft magic.
