I'd like to get some speakers for the garage that will either connect to a main device like the Sonos, or maybe something simpler and cheaper that just connects to my phone to stream or play mp3s.

anybody have any experience with the Sonos stuff?
using something different you can recommend?

gracias.

My inlaws have Sonos and it's really nice stuff, but can get expensive quick. It's great for a multi room/zone setup, but more than you need for a single space like a garage.

If you have an old stereo and speakers (and wifi) an Apple Airport Express will let you play wireless from your phone through the stereo.

We have a Sonos system with 3 speakers. Nice thing about the Sonos is you can simply take a speaker wherever you want, plug it in and play your music when it connects to your wireless. I've used one of our small speakers for the garage like you are intending.

Good sound - but I'm no audiophile.

I've got no experience with the Sonos thing, but I love my JBL Charge 2+. Gets pretty loud for its size, sounds pretty good, durable water-resistant construction, easy Bluetooth connection, headphone jack, and USB port that will also charge your device.

Also fits in my backpack pretty well. Goes errywhere with me.

Depending on how nice you want to go, there are a lot of options. Costco always has speaker systems that are wireless but super cheap (and on sale often), assuming that you want to have them fixed. Our system can accept bluetooth and can seriously boom, but was only about $125 (on sale). If you want to go through and look at what they have, as well as get a year's supply of paper goods let me know.

As amishmatt pointed out - Sonos probably only makes sense if you're planning to use it for your house audio. The components *are* expensive and probably not worth the "investment" if you're just wanting a one-off speaker option for the garage.

I got a UE Boom free when I got my last cell phone, it's loud enough, kinda small, and seems reasonably durable. Usually get about 6 hours out of a full charge, but it generally just stays plugged in while in the garage. Sound seems fine to me, but me ears are crap, and I probably couldn't tell the difference anyway.

I would check with Syadasti. You never know if Chinese children were poisoned by PCB's during the manufacture of the choice you make. You could injure your neighbors dogs with a errant high frequency death noise that might emanate from said system. It could also attract owls that will swoop down and steal your small animals. Better safe then sorry.....

in between cursing my automobile today, I checked out the chromecast thingy and the JBL that the porn'stache has.
All the music I'd be playing through it would be streaming or mp3.

I have good speakers but they aren't powered, so that means some extra expense. If the JBL sounds good it seems that would be plenty for the garage. I'm gonna go something along those lines.

Thanks for playing everyone. You're all very helpful and beautiful creatures.

Funny timing on this. At my going away/retirement yesterday my section gave me this...a bluetooth compatible ammo can. The eyes on the skulls lightup, it blasts the garage pretty well, but isnt very portable despite the cool para cord handle...

I think he's implying that I'm old, which i am.

Car was acting up, so i rode first thing this morning then spent the rest of the day trying to get serviced (ha!) to no success. Today had sucked since about 10am. That's my story.

Also, I'll try it nao.
