my office hired new people. seasonal people. 6 of them.

5 are the worst and most imcompetent people i´ve seen so far in at my job. fortunately they come for only 4 hours twice during my work week.

am the supervisor, and their job is pretty easy. we have a client for whom we take orders. extremely easy. calling from an existing database of clients who already know what they want and the price and everything. is just taking down the name, item and address. nothing else.

but these people screw up at every possible level. they dont know how to log into a computer (i have to do it for them), they cant freaking minimize a window for god´s sake!. and to top that, half of their orders are wrong. wrong or incomplete address, no zip code, stuff written on the wrong cells, etc, etc
eventually i end up fixing up the order database, looking in a map to check for a street with a loosely sounding name as the one written, finding out zip codes, etc, etc. and at times, the information is so wrong I, myself, have to call back the clients to get all the information all over again. (which its the last thing i do, because it gives an awful impression).

now, the sweet part is this. our client pays a bonus. i told my boss "these people mess up everything. i end up doing their stuff all over again".. "so include me in the bonus split". he said "no, we cant afford that". "please help them, becuase ITS HARD TO FIND PEOPLE, and anyways, weekends are slow so it evens up fory ou".
wtf?? they cant afford to pay me do somebody´s elses job
i know my job is to check everything is in order and help people. which i gladly did the first 4 days. i have no problem going out of my obligation to help... but to do somebody´s job, and am talking about doing again pretty much 40% of the entire workload of those 5 people combined (which is what am doing right now) because they suck, and having the bonus of that job paid to someone else is really ****ty.

i´d write a report to have them fired and replaced them asap.. the catch is, those 5 people are my boss´ stay-a-home wife and 4 of her friends.
it also pisses off the regular employees. (normally is a bonus per person, but in the "bonus per team" they end up working for others too) so it reallly ****s up the morale of the people. but it specially pisses me off.

what to do? i can´t tell the boss´boss (my boss will likely get back at me).
should i

- keep doing it, and take it like a champ
- tell the people "dont ask me for substantial help anymore"
- keep doing it, BUT letting the mistakes go, or flat out giving erroneous help

i really dont want to walk away from the job. the pays isnt so bad, and it so slow in my shifts, it gives me time to play around, read a lot and do lot of recreational stuff i couldnt do somewhere else.

i was going to say, "write them up and subsequently fire them", but then you said it's your boss' wife and her friends.

You're fvcked.

So sleep with his wife, embezzle a bunch of money, jump in your muscle car and leave the country.

you should ask if you can telecommute

I'm sure someone will be along to say suck it up princess
my boss turned down the telecommute idea 2 weeks ago.

but at least, we got to the point where he told me i can bring over a directv set and tv for my cubicle. (yes, its THAT slow on 2 of my shifts).

Give them a prompt to read back after taking the order:
"While I still have you on the phone, can Iplease confirm the following information before we ship the product?
1: Number of widgets: "To confirm 10 widgets, that is ten, 1-0 (say it out)"
2: The widget is: "I want to confirm it is widget product number 1-2-3-4-5 (say each individual number out)
3: The shipping address is as follows: "123 Any Street - Spelled (spell it out in alpha-bravo-charlie), Any Country, Postal Code."

After all information has been confirmed, the emphasis is the customer. They will also appreciate the thoroughness of the order to prevent mix-ups. Give them the script, talk to your boss about requiring them to follow the script when completing the orders. If they do not, take it to your bosses boss. Explain that the orders are going out incorrectly, and you do not want it to effect business.

That way you are not the rat, and you have done your due dilligence to correct the situation.

bah, dont be a wuss, put your foot down. They are costing him money, bosses understand those terms. If you couldnt reason with him, let them **** it up so bad he wont have a choice (but cover your ass!). Nepotism ruins companies...
