That's why i was saying I understood the point already. I was talking crash distance, while the numbers mentioned were measured from the top, which was unclear to me.

Besides, 75m is huge... 50m just might be the distance the bike travelled from the top. Anyways, doesn't matter as we actually have some footage now. ;)

Yes, and either way, that was a huuge off the bike crash. He was on his bike and going so quickly after as well, amazing stuff.

Looks like it could have been so much worse.

Yeah but Sam doesn't know if he's behind or in front remember. It might look like he made a silly choice there, but we have the benefit of split-times and hindsight when we watch the what happened.
yeah, that is true and it is easy for us armchair punters to put him down. One great thing about Sam is no-one will ever accuse him of not give 100%.

I wonder if that guy screaming "nooooooooo...nooooooooo-noooo-noooooo!!!!" in the 2nd crash clip is the same guy holding his head in the Freecaster footage?

Pretty insane how fast he gets up after that one - and only 5 seconds off the pace at the finish...whaaaaaaaa?!?

i noticed that too. LIke he clipped a rock right before he launched.
Don't know if the live broadcast of Sam's run is up, but he scrubs it hard to the right as he goes off the lip. Watching it live I had a feeling he might not have held it together after that . .

Littermag says he didn't scrub it......he was going too fast.

Not sure if that is an observation or from actually talking to Sam...

could be. But from the freecaster vid it certainly looked like a massive scrub.

this is almost the same angle as what was broadcast live, but lower resolution.

That vid posted by Cesar is the most violent of the three posted around. That is just brutal and as Sam said, "Lucky to be alive". That could have gone A LOT worse.

Seriously. He got super lucky on that one. It really looks like it could have been something he didn't walk and especially ride away from.

Wow, for sure lucky to walk away from that one. I'm amazed/glad we don't see more of these crashes with the speeds these guys run these days.

Not to start the flat pedal debate, but it looks like he landed a bit nose first and hard to flat and his feet slid off forward and hit the ground, which is why he crashed. If he were clipped in I think he probably would have rode it out knowing his bike handling skills.

But regardless, I'm glad he's alive, unscathed (I'm assuming) and ready to race another day. That's what's important.

hate to expose myself like this, but he updated facebook with the post "sore today"
surely that kind of carnage would do a number on you whether you walked/rode away or not...

great first post... and total rubbish at that. what pedals he rode has nothing to do with any of this.

15 feet to flat, crooked and nose heavy (into a hole) at 30mph is what caused the crash.

I concur, whether he was on flat pedals or clipped in he would have binned it...it was inevitable.

And there is another argument to say:

If he 'was' on clips, he would have got carted out...if he couldn't unclip, etc...

crap, can't believe I got involved with what if's.
