Holland and Argentina nil all. Bit of a contrast to the 6 goal drubbing they handed out last game.

I didn't actually watch the game this morning (5am). Did the Argentines take their foot of the accelerator as they'd already qualified or did the Dutch really take it to them?
Back and forth. Argentina probably had a slight advantage. Both teams were resting a bunch of guys with yellow cards.

Both teams played quite well defensively as well.

At least it wasn't raining on them like the Serbia & Montenegro vs Ivory Coast game... they were sliding all over the place in that match. :p

You know, I'm no World Cup expert by any stretch, but generally speaking, doesn't it help your chances to advance if you actually score some goals? I guess *technically* the US got one against Italy, but they didn't even score it themselves. Seems to me that it's going to be hard to advance when you don't score a goal in three games. I guess no one explained that to the US team.

ok, so beasely finalllly did something good, makes a nice steal and a great pass...i'll eat my words....

as for US not scoring goals, the amazing stat i heard on ESPN before this game was that the US only had 1...only 1 shot on goal in the first two games...

oh what a great move by the US...get deep in your end, and you pop it up into the middle of the penatly box...
results in a penalty kick...

ahh...it was bocanegra that didnt clear the ball properly...

ok, so theyre saying the foul was a questionable call...but still, all he had to do was put the ball out of bounds...not get fancy and try and kick it over his head...where he ended up putting the ball in the box...

Do the fans make up for the sh!tty officiating????

Soccer refs have to be the WORST in all of sports.
:stupid:

I thought NBA officials were bad, but the World Cup refs are absolutely horrible.

I wonder what kind of German beer that chick has. I also wonder if the beer served in German stadiums is better than the swill most US arenas serve. Any Euros here than can answer that?

Fenway Park serves Sam Adams if you know where to find it.

I want to know why when an opposing play lightlty touches a player the dude falls down like his been shot... then they strap in to the stretcher and haul him almost to the sidelines where he jumps up and runs back into the game...

And the offending player gets 'red carded'.... totally stupid.

as for the beer, i heard that when budweiser was first announced as the official sponsor of the world cup, they were planning on only selling budweiser...

here, just found this:
http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,2144,1435498,00.html

Germans revere soccer almost as much as they do their beer, so fans of both found it hard to swallow the news that only American beer would be sold in stadiums when Germany hosts the World Cup. But things are looking up.

It was almost sacriligious. Fans crowding the stadiums for the 2006 World Cup would be limited to only one brand of beer to wet their whistles -- Budweiser, the product of US brewery Anheuser Busch.

The company had laid down $40 million (€29.8 million) for the rights to be one of the World Cup's main sponsors, and in return, was given a monopoly on beer sales in the World Cup stadiums.

While Budweiser might be a top seller stateside, in Germany -- renowned for the variety and purity of its brews -- Bud is looked down on with scornful disdain. It's watery and lacks any "kick," say German connoisseurs. For German soccer fans, things were looking grim.

Bitburger saves the day

But politicians and breweries refused to accept defeat, and on Tuesday, the head of marketing at German brewery Bitburger emerged triumphant. Bitburger has signed an agreement with Anheuser Busch that will allow its brand of pilsner to be sold alongside Budweiser.

The ace up Bitburger's sleeve? Years ago, the brewery had obtained a court ruling in its favor forbidding the advertising of Budweiser in Germany because there was a danger that German consumers would confuse "Bit" with "Bud."

What about the bratwurst?

For the sake of the World Cup, however, both breweries have agreed to peacefully co-exist, leaving German soccer fans to grumble about an equally weighty problem -- what exactly will they be washing down with their Bits and Buds?

Will the traditional bratwurst be on the menu, or will they be forced to resort to American hamburgers? After all, the US fast-food giant McDonald's is also a World Cup sponsor.

of course. the game itself is just an excuse.
soccer has replaced tribal warfare among countries.

the colombians are still rubbing all over the argies the 5-0 they scored in buenos aires against argentina in 93.

It's the local beer in the area (Kaiserslautern)near all the USbases in South West Germany. Partsy introduced it to me. I like it, but I haven't tried a German brew I didn't like. You can bet it's 100x better than Bud.

Oh and I see what you mean about the ref in the US-Ghana game. He was the same dickhead we had in the Brazil-Australia game. Final free kick count 25-9 in Brazil's favour.:dead:

yep I agree Landon Donovan didn't do a damn thing, and I also blame the coach for not doing enough to give the team a spark via subs at an earlier moment when he saw the current lineup wasn't cutting it!

Aussies through to the second round. You bloody little beauty. Woo hoo. And a big "in your face" to Bruce Arena who said the Aussies would win the race for being the first team back home. Haha.
