I've been informed that the course will be running under the chair(blowing half the mountains vertical in the first 45 seconds), the traversing into the NS trails, and the race course will include the teeter totter. I can only hope this is untrue, as it doesn't make for much of a course, especially considering the terrain they have there. Any thoughts??

lol....the old teeter-totter rumor all over again. As for the first rumor, i tried to start that here like a week ago.

From the course tape on Friday, it looks like it'll be fairly similar to last years.

Yeah....if it's going to be below the lift, I predict a lot of injured old people. And if the need it by next week, they'd better get cracking on getting it built!

The lower part is pretty similar to last year..... same area in the woods, but it's a new line.

Great. It's raining in Bromont so lets have a race on wood stunts. What a great mountain why do they waste our time with three minute courses on wood ramps. Bring back the 5 minute el natural courses.

What bothers me so much, is that I believe that any finals, or championships type race, needs to test all of a riders skills. The old Canada Cup course has it all. It's a good length (around 5 minutes), it has technical rock sections, fast open areas (sort of) , a ton of corners, a lot of pedaling. It only really lacks in the steep department. Last years course was pretty short, and lacked many of those elements. One of the biggest factors is that as long as you are good technical rider, you can win on that course without being especially fit.
Another major factor for this particular race, is that it needs to be enjoyable for some of the older folks. The old course was challenging, yet rideable. Even the oldest people could get down the course without fearing for their lives. At the same time, it was still hard to ride fast, and the best riders still won.

I'll race whatever course I'm offered, but I think if they want to make this event a success, they need to keep the interests of all the riders in mind. I think they made a poor choice last year, and after many complaints, they (like some other cycling organizations) did not listen, and if they run a similar course, can probably look forward to lower turnout next year.

rant over.

what, you cant ride in a straight line off a 3 foot long wood ramp?

i'm glad the course will be where it is, because otherwise the old WC course on the other side gets totally ruined for the rest of the year. Its not all about the racing for one weekend of the year.

I like riding the freeride stuff when I am on vacation at Bromont. However, a UCI Worlds event shouldn't be decided by who can ride Super Mario Bros. stunts, especially when it's wet wood with no grip. It would be one thing if it was just that tree foot piece of wood, but a great portion of that trail is wood.

Besides I think that old WC course gets pretty torn up during the Quebec Cup and Canada Cup races the past couple years and the volunteers have done a great job maintaining the trail.

Freezin my arse off!
I saw some old timers rippin it up at Bromont this weekend... It was inspiring watching guys that appear in their 50's to be shreddin on M1s....looked like they were training with a local ripper.
Don't worry the course won't be down the "freeride" trail...18 was taped not 23.

Oh ya Zedro and ChrisRobin...cool to meet ya finally and thanks for that run we did..that was fun.

peace

again THERE ARE NO STUNTS!!!!. No teeters, no up 'n' down briges, no skinnies. Sheesh.

The wooden ramps that are there pretty much just cross ditches that would otherwise make the trail unridable and there is no trick to them; replacing them with dirt fill wouldnt change a thing (exept that it would all disapear in the rain). The one long ramp there that has a turn is so steeply banked its basically a no-worries berm, but it not at all stunt-ish. The lower North Shore stuff isnt part of the course, so dont sweat it. I didnt hear people complaining about some of the wood throughfare stuff at St-Anne, well its the same deal.....oh wait, i dont race, why do i care? :p

PJ: yeah it was a fun ride, hope we can do it again.

If they tried, they could make a really awesome course that could address every aspect of downhill riding. Right now I can picture a nice 'hidden' trail that is really steep and has a few turns in it.

Maybe the staff that design the course are just slapping a something together because everything is so erroded (a lot of holes everywhere).

Private Joker...yeah that was good. You caught me on a slow day ;) If you still have that email about the Nucleon, can you send it to chris9505@hotmail.com ??

Super Mario Bros. ramps, stunts, walkways whatever the label, my point was DH race runs shouldn't be determined on how you ride man made objects. Especially that long wood ramp with the berm. Practice last year in the rain, I saw a couple people wad it up hard sliding down the wet wood.

Bromont has so much to offer, and given the great courses they have had in the past I expected better last year. Bring back the jump over the Alpine Slide. Regardless I'll still be up there riding the best place in the East.

The big issue is the fire road, not the trails in the woods. I loved everything after you got into the trees. Even the steeps at the bottom were fun (though the huge of camber sweeping dusty turns were tough).

I wish they had been able to make better use of the top. Other then that, I can't wait for the weekend.

If they run it on the old wooden course, they are dumb. Bromont has a hell of a good setup for races, even combining sections of other, natural trails. I have no idea why they insist on running it on a lame course.

The should use the upper section of the old world cup, to the middle of the canada cup, to some of the newer trails at the bottom.

BWT maintenance has sucked this year, half the mountain is blown up from massive rains.

fraser dude, maintenance has been top notch...after the rain they patched a crap load of sink holes and damaged parts of the hill, they cleaned alot of the fallen trees and what not. it's been great! they even managed to build new runs, and modify the older ones to add some flavour.

when is the masters?

I disagree, they have done lots of work true, but the mountain is still blown up, and they are trying to build new runs instead of fixing up the older ones. Bad move in my opinion.

Masters is this weekend.

i think only the masters run is blown up, but that has to be the most used run on the hill aside from the top of the canada cup.

they layed down alot of dirt and re routed people on the top of the canada cup course because it was all blown out. they did a good job imo.

true they could have added more work into the exsisting courses, but hey, i still think they did a good job.

i agree with SDG, they've done alot of maintenance this year, but you can only keep up so much with bad weekly rains. Also some bypasses simply take more time to build and at least offer improvement, like the top section of the Adreneline, the mid-section of the Quebec Cup, the exit chute of the first Bonzai/WC section, and the post stairs section of the WC. The new Boomerrang was much needed too. They've done alot more work this year than i've ever seen.

I'd rather see new runs, something that racer-types practicing the WC over and over again simply are unable to appreciate i guess :p
