Excuse me guys, but i´m new on here, and i live in Spain.

Lately i´ve broken lots of bikes, including my DHS Mono. I need a new rig, and don´t know what to buy?

What´s real tough, not worried about weight, etc!!

Let me have your suggestions.

silly question, as once you hit the high-end of any product there is rarely a clear-cut winner, but this has got to be up there:

"World's toughest" is quite a stretch.. All things break, eventually.

Maybe look into a Brooklyn Machine Works TMX?

Canfield Brothers Fatty Fat?

This question was done on southerndownhill.com, by the same guy.... Wonder if he thinks the guys on RM s' opinions are more valid?

How about a Demo9 DH? Not only a really strong bike, but a great company to deal with on warranty issues.

I know its Taiwanese and its cool to hate on big companies, but those bikes are bad ass!

maybe this one?

seems like they ran out of tubes for the rear end and welded a kids bike rear triangle on though. but the rest of it looks pretty much bombproof

Boy - those are some sexy welds on that beast.
lol, no kidding. Its funny how they did such a nice job on the tube forming, then just gave up on the gusset, links and rear end. Also it looks like they mirrored the Cortina DH-8s linkage from looking at the 6 bar configuration.

nah dont get serious on me, its just a thing some kids did as a way to prove what a little sheet metal and a welder can do with the correct amount of beer i guess.

NoWeightSaving [NWS] concept

As a Bombproof bike has top
priority in bringing the ultimate
bicycling experience to it's pilot,
reliability is No. 1. Therefore
Bombproof doesn't save weight.
Bombproof adds weight in order to
ensure the bike to do what it's made for:

is it a joke, because it looks like the stand is welded to the frame, ie. you cant break it because you cant ride it....

for a more realistic look check out ironhorse bikes

i got the 03 team /the soon to be world cup and i am loving it. there have been complaints about the rear end but that is an easy fix if you got 300 extra dollars for the stiffer end. but its deffinatly a solid bike. :thumb: ohh and mine weight 43lbs for anyone who wanted to know so it is light.

and the scream is a good investment too sence your not to worried bout weight.

No it's not a joke....well at least not like you mentioned it :p

I spoke with the Bombproof guys @ bikemotion and they're very dedicated.
This whole 'bombproof' concept started because they where sick of constantly 'snapping and warping' their big brand DH-frames.

oh well.

i dont think theres anything wrong with it, looks very sound. It just has that industrial look thats all.

hands down, my buddy's custom canfield signature series. built for him after he killed a Fatty Fat, it was built using stupidly thick chromolly tubing (not sure of exact specs, but can find them out if I tried hard enough) with geometry suited for an Avy MTN 10. He crashed last year, BIG TIME, broke his handlebar, bent both stanchions on his MTN10 fork, and pretty much almost killed himself. Frame was fine. He's back to riding, now, but thankfully has gotten away from the going HUGE.

Yeah, i kind of expected to get some **** for that one. I know the tankass's had a nasty habit of snapping in half, despite their apparent beefiness, but I was thinking maybe their 4130 DH bikes might be a little tougher. I admit that I don't know much about them though.

Supposedly all of the above are bombproof.
has anyone outside of darckcycles spent any real time on a scareb yet? i didn't think they had been released yet. Looks like a solid design, but if remeber correctly, they were only 11 pounds for the frame, seems to be more of a race frame than a huck frame

Bombproof bikes arent bad I guess IF you dont mind the extra weight (which is a lot).
The bike on the pic is their first proto but the newer model is actually a lot less ugly.

BP

They are working on an ALU frame right now and their developing a hardtail.
Too bad the bikes are way overpriced and too heavy.

No, not really, unless you like toothpaste-welds. That sh*t is the ugliest welding I've ever seen. Their reputation for strength is VERY low; I have a buddy who's light, sport-level, non-racer, and has broken a couple of those bikes.

Discostu, I imagine the steel bikes will be better, but that's a function of them being steel, not being well-made. Honestly, they'd probably be good bikes if the welds were any better than my sister could whip out.

All bikes break. The mono DHS is a sick racer, but not really meant to handle too much big drop stuff. IMO, instead of getting some heavy, burley, monster, - (where you would sacrifice agility, and responsiveness for durability) - get a great bike with a great warranty. Demo 9's are sick bikes, and Specialized warraties them for life!

Warrantied for life....against defects in materials and workmanship. A no-fault, "here's another free frame because you either crashed or just plain wore yours out" warranty would put any company out of business.

Sorry, I'm Canadian ..sorry...
I've been very happy with my ClifCat Tankass. It's held up well to my crappy skils. Sure the welds aren't pretty, but it not for looking at. The geometry is sweet too, real short (15.75") chainstays makes for a fun little bike.

Those Hood bikes have got to be up there.

Just this weekend I was up riding at Jiminy and some of the Hood Crew was there. So up at the top we are helping the 90 some year old, pipe smoking, classical music listening man unload the bikes and Supa8 goes to grab the Hood that came up. Watching him try to lift it nearly gave me a herniated disc in my back :p

Thank you, and well done for noticing. OBVIOUSLY there are a lot more heavy duty bikes in the US than there are in the UK......AND i need to buy a new bike, so value the opinions of OTHER rides who may ride Heavy Duty bikes.

Hope that clears up why i´m asking here as well..............
