I saw a complete road bike at the Del Mar fair a few years ago. It was amazing. Every piece was wood, even the chain links and cables.

I heard Honda's working on a wood framed DH bike because the aluminum ones are too noisy. :thumb:

looks totally rad and under 1500
"The design goal for the Weapon-X was to create a purpose built frame with the performance and strength required by today’s extreme mountain biker. The Weapon-X is arguably the strongest 9 inch travel mountain bike frame in existence. This frame is not for the faint of heart."

Thats a pretty big claim........

Yeah, you are right..it is an odd claim. I am sure they have taken all 9" travel bikes in existence, tested them for strength and discovered that their design was the strongest !!....NOT !!!

lol, no kidding. Its funny how they did such a nice job on the tube forming, then just gave up on the gusset, links and rear end. Also it looks like they mirrored the Cortina DH-8s linkage from looking at the 6 bar configuration.
yup, the linkage was courtesy Cortina while the seat and chainstays are courtesy Huffy (literally). POS...

A lot of people will scoff but there hasn't been a single frame failure on any of the Kona Stinky/Stab rental bikes at Whistler. I have used those rental bikes and I definitely didn't take good care 'em. I think that says something for simplicity. Not the most active bike in the rough but all around sweet and fair priced...

I have seen several 2004 demo's folded on the downtube, 5" from the HT. Speaking with a shop the other day Spec hasn't changed the tubing for 2005.

Once again, my vote goes for bighits. Superstrong, and cheap.
I'm calling shenanigans. After seeing Romaniuk go huge to flat at red bull last year and not damage his bike, I'm a believer in the Demo bikes. Steve was at least 20' up and went about 40+' out to completely flat, he bent holzfellers and some other components but the frame was good to go. Repeated stresses will kill any frame but specialized subjects their bikes to rigorous testing. The only Demo HT failure I've seen was a roof-rack/overhang incident. Let's see some pics...

Werd. The only picture I have seen of a failed Demo was gnar, but it was the one you are talking about. Those are beef.

See you are asking this quaestion on a North American forum, and to be honest what would these lads know???

I reccomend checking out an Ancillotti Tomaso DHP, small Italian manufactuer, Alberto makes about 150-200 frames a year, him and his dad hold the patent for the suspension design on the frame, which is the design that all major MX companys used up until recently, they really are sooooo strong, it is ridiculous. They are not over built at all just really well designed and built, no need for stupid levels of metal and gussets, They frame and custon chain-device(Polymer) weighs in at 4.6kg and comes with an Ancillotti shock, custom built and valved for the rider. It is FACTORY. Not any old mas produced Taiwanesse or American crap.

Thanks

Sham, it ws only a harmless dig, dont get your knickers in a knot, but to be honest the Europeans have over then years been superior in most aspects of Enginnering and Construction. First Space Craft, cars, steam engines, combustion engines etc all European firsts.... and as all white Americans are European decendents... well you get the story.
And American cars are pathetic in terms of technology and enginering.

But dont take it to seriously...... it was ment as a Harmless joke.... :)

I think American cars suck because the American public will still buy them out of some perverted form of national pride. American manufacturers are capable of making a good car it's just been proven that they haven't needed to to sell them.

I hope you're not insinuating that Britain builds good cars. Look at what crap Land Rovers were until Ford got their hands on them, same for Jaguar. (I am not a fan of ford, it's just true) German cars are very performance oriented but I haven't seen one that its reliable beyond 100k if you're lucky. Italian cars, same thing but even more so, a tune up after every sunday drive is not my idea of engineering. If you really want to talk engineering and reliability you need to look a few thousand miles farther east than Europe...

Well don't get your knickers in a bunch when i tell you that the japanesse kick your a$$'s. It doesn't matter how pretty your cars are when land rover, BMW, and benz have the lowest reliability rating of any car on the road. The cheapest toyota is more reliable than anything theses "great" companies produce. So don't go tooting your horn so eagerly.

ok but can you freeride on jap cars? :D:D:D:D:D:D

(yes... Nissan Patrol II, Toyota LandCruiser )

Guys get your fvcking act together, it doesnt matter where we come from, we should just get along well with eachother....

The easiest thing in the world is for me as a European to say that the Americans are this or that so screw em. The easiest thing for the Americans is to say "Eurotrash this eurotrash that..."

I really think we are better than that... (the silly trans-Atlantic flame wars).

Lets not immitate our politicians who fight over Eu vs $.

I agrre totally with you in the last 25 years the Japenesse have totally turned around their industries.Good without Honda where the **** would MX be?????

But you will find that the European cars sold in America are quite often produced in the US.Many European car manufactuers are superb, VW are just phenomenal in their reliability as are SAAB, Ferrari, Audi & all of the Volkswagen group (SKODA, Lamborghini etc...)

But we are getting away from the bike industry, I was just saying that this small Italian manufactuer are very good at making quaility bikes, more so than most North American Manufacturers, with the exception of the likes of Canfield, Foes etc......., who just dont know the meaning of true Quaility.

My advice to ****faced.... buy something custom built or hat to be the first kid on the block with SHOWA or Kayaba forks on your Honda!!!!!

Talking SHOWA and Kayaba...if these companies gets more into DH, then I can imagine a few companies that will have to tighten up their quality or else they will not sell many DH fork (IMO)...

Ohhh yes, how I would love Showa and Kayaba to come in and teach RS and Manitou(especially) a wee lesson. No matter waht the price I think I will be the first Paddy with a Honda DH rig, I think some people are overestimating Hondas and Showas superiority over estabhlished MTB companys, but I think we are right to thnk that the will jsu be a smidgen ahead.

SAAB is Ford owned also (as is Volvo), and their reliability is far from superb as is VW, I have seen more late model VW lemons than I care to remember. Audi has some decently reliable cars but they have their fare share of lemons too (Mk1 S4). Ferrari and Lambo are the farthest thing from reliable but damn if they aren't sexy, just no ones idea of a daily driver.

Point is Japan OWNS reliable performance and Toyota specifically OWNS Japanese cars.

Off-topic yes but I didn't bring it up.

Now that I can fully agree with. I'm sure these Italian bikes you are talking about are really nice.
