i bet the vast majority of these bikes sold (as always) are wal-mart specials, not "real" bikes

Probably, but with a 7th Tour de France win and rising gas prices I am sure a lot of wanna be Lances got to the shop and threw down the plastic for a $4000 roadie.

Only $3.5M across the whole US for bike paths is pretty lame though. Maybe if more people start riding, more interest will be had in bike paths. Wouldn't it be great to have completely car free altenative routes into major cities?

Agreed. I my roommate's brother just bought one of those and I just about killed myself. Then one shows up in 40 Year Old Virgin. :think: I really doubt it will do a thing for the industry with this kind of false advertising going on.
