You must go see a hand specialist. Not just any ortho doc. the scaphoid has poor blood supply and thus heals more poorly than any other bone. There are some surgeons who are cutting off a piece of adjacent bone and attaching that to the scaphoid. This 'bridging' essentially provides new blood supply from the adjacent bone. Pretty radical stuff. I don't know how common it is, but they do it at the hospital where i work (In the OR). Good luck, but get several opinions. Preferably from an ortho group that has hand specialists!
Youpaulie.... I just read this thread and know it’s been years. But how is your fused wrist doing these days? I just got word today I’m either facing a proximal row carpectomy (PRC), partial fusion (four point) or full fusion.
Just a heads up...I went to another Doctor and he agreed with the fusion surgery. The surgery is scheduled for 11/4.....I'll have to wait to next year to see how it is for riding and I assume I will be fine with skiing, outside of a funky pole plant, I should be good!
