The day has been shortened!

The quake, the seventh strongest earthquake in recorded history, hit Chile Saturday and should have shortened the length of an Earth day by 1.26 milliseconds, according to research scientist Richard Gross at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif.
So much less time to hate MMike.

No way you'll get them back. i guess they were stolen by all the scumbags who looted every supermarket and major store in Concepción.
Was that on the newsreports about the earthquake?

we could be doing way worse. Our construction standards are pretty good and therefore only old and deteriorated buildings along with some newer ones that were defectively built collapsed. That helped a lot in preventing thousands of deaths. a bit over 700 casualties isn't that bad if you consider the magnitude of the quake and the amount of people that live in cities were it could be felt with an magnitude above 7.
At this point the worst of the situation is that some "bad guys" and uneducated people who followed them started looting and burning everything from supermarkets, department stores and petrol stations to mom and pop's grocery stores. This led to the military taking over and putting a few cities under something that could be literally translated to "state of siege" for a few days. No one is allowed out of their houses from 6:00PM to 12:00AM and anyone found wandering the streets in that timeframe could be shot on site no questions asked if deemed necessary. This should help controlling the worst of our population and help the rest of us in the process of getting everything back to normal.
Basic services are still not back in a 100%. Most of them are given during the night and cut back during the days to continue working on them as fast and efficiently as possible.
Shortage of supplies is being expected for the next few days (because of all the looting), but we hope the situation doesn't come to that point.
