So during a cleaning of my race bike I discovered my BB is more or less hosed (Shimano Saint, external bb stylee). The only spare I currently have sitting around is an XTR external bb. Is there any reason I could not or should not use it?

XTR M960 or M970? If it's a 960, just put in in there. If it's a 970, don't use the chainline adjuster bit.

Not sure, I'm gonna be using an e-13 ISCG adapter with it. FWIW I compared it side by side with the BB I took off my frame, and the width was the same.
