They do make aftermarket spiders for XTR, most of the XT cranks I've seen don't have the removible spider anyways. However I do believe it is the same spline and should fit.
I kind of think no. The old ones I believe did. Check with webcyclery or someone that sells spot or jericho rings. They made splined single rings, so they should know.
The one nugget that I can offer is that there were 2 different spider standards for XTR. Like 950 and 951? Can't remember the model numbers. I think that one was a lower profile design. *I THINK* that the latter crank was the lower profile of the 2. I believe that there was more aluminum removed from the "crank channel" of the spider to allow for a lower q-factor. Or something like that.
I am sure that there were 2 models though. Look around the back of the pedal spindle hole for the model number.
XT M750 and later model spiders will work. The M750 cranks were the only ones that were easily removeable. The XT Hollowtechs use the same spider but it's pressed on so you would have to destroy the crank to remove the spider. The LX spiders won't work. They are the same pattern but a thicker spline so the lockring won't go all the way down. All of the M95X series cranks have the same spline pattern. Some aftermarket spider work and some don't. You can buy the Shimano spider separately from the cranks...
