I reiterate: they shouldn't have been there in the first place. It's not their fight and it would seem that the US doesn't even appreciate their putting themselves in harms way. No their "legion" 370 strong doesn't even account for half of the casualties. It was likely meant to be a symbolic gesture of support.

But I guess they wised up and said "screw this"
