so, thanks to ------- info, i've started charging $2 whenever someone wants to use Paypal at the end of an auction. like --- said, it's doing them a service...keeping the buyer from having to do any work, other than click and type.

does anyone else do this? i seem to have a haggler on my hands now.

i think charging a PP fee is a little frugal......if you are going to do it then just charge exactly what it cost you to do the PP transaction. Personally as a seller I'd rather do a PP transaction then wait on a money order.

i don't know...if you're getting something dang near brand new, for a substantial amount off retail, $2 shouldn't be a big deal.

not that easy, paypal charges 3% of total transfer, so if you sell a frame for 1000, its not to easy to just ad a mysterious $20 onto shipping

3 percent of a thousand would be more like30 bucks

You could always offer to split the paypal fee's....I do that when I'm selling a big ticket item. I have numerous potential money makers on ebay right now so this time I passed on sharing the ebay fee and decided to cover it all myself....sometimes I guess at what the item will sell for and either use the reserve to cover the Paypal fee or add it to the buy it now price....D

I have never charged for a Pay-Pal payment as a seller - Pay-Pal transactions are much more convenient for me to process so I encourage it's use. If I read an auction and note surcharges for Pay-Pal or "handling" I skip the auction totally. Too many items and lots sellers willing to absorb the nomal costs of doing business.

OI never charge an extra fee for PP payment . I find id much more convient and an call it part of doing buisness.

and generally if some one is doing that I will not bid on the item.

do you accept other means of payment ?

i wouldn't use a credit card, then.
Welcome to missing the point, population: you.

Charge whatever you want I suppose, but you're charging people for something that makes your life easier. If you think the measly couple bucks per sale you are gonna make can offset the number of people who will just not bother with buying from you, then it makes good business sense.

sorry, but you said "How would you feel if the grocery store charged you an extra 2% whenever you wanted to use your credit card to pay?"

ok. i would feel indifferent. i wouldn't use a credit card. there are other means of payment. if i had to use a credit card, fine, i'll pay the $2. what would you have rather seen me post?

how does make my life easier? it makes their life easier. if people want to pay by check, i'm fine with that. i rather them use Paypal so they can get their stuff quicker, but they choose to use Paypal, i don't enforce it. the charge is stated in the shipping information. if the measly couple of bucks is enough to turn someone away from the auction, there is another who will bid.

So just to clarify: Your contention is that having someone mail you a paper check, taking it to the bank, waiting however many days for it to clear, keeping track of the auction for all this extra time, and holding the inventory for this extra time, does not incur any costs?

That can be arranged.

meh - I wouldn't care if I only had 10 posts, unless that means my avatar would have to go away. I don't so much strive for post counts. I used to on MoJo, but never here really. I have just had a lot to say.
