Truckee is cheap. The market is great. Check out craigslist. You can find cheap housing near Northstar.

What do you mean there is nothing to do? There is hell of a lot more to do for free in that area than anywhere else I know of.

DHmike, you're on crack.

EDIT: Reno is like 30 min away. Sac is a little over an hour and a half.
easy there red rabbit, i know there's alot to do up there i never said there's nothing to do. i'm just saying the job market must suck because it's in the moutains and no i'm not on crack i was just drunk at the time i posted my response.

I just wiki'd Santa Barbara and WOW - looks beautiful. $2k rents do sound somewhat intimidating, but I'll keep this on my list.

I'm also looking at Bend, OR, but it's colder there today than here in Billings. Dang it... I'll have to dress *extremely* warm and take up snowboarding.

I'm also noticing the correlation between expensive housing and year-round nice temperatures - it seems to be a direct one!

BEST DOWNHILL TOWN, EVA!
Yeah, miami FL and New Orleans LA?

I guess they are just shouting out where they live without considering my question.

BTW, thanks everyone for your replies so far. Wikipedia, Zillow, and Google Earth: Weather mapping are getting a workout.

As someone from Santa Barbara.........where we get no snow, very little rain, and most of the weather is PERFECT year around....the rents aren't as bad as the net might make it seem. There's lots of places to rent in the $1000-1500 range depending on what you are looking for. Our house prices have been coming down for some time, meaning rents will drop a tad as well.

It's not too far away from Los Angeles/San Fransisco area. Both are pretty easy drives, so you're not too far away from being outside of Santa Barbara. There's 3-5 world class DH/FR/XC trails that you can shuttle. If you're into water sports theres sailing, fishing, surfing. We don't get as consistent surf as south or north of here, but when the select spots are on (search Sandspit/Rincon) there's nothing else like it. Both spots are in numerous videos that have California in them. There's camping/hiking in the back country as well.

Things to do otherwise........lots of winery's in the valley, little towns with their own neat shops. Santa Barbara has a couple of shopping centers, lots of places to eat, 3 lane highway LOL.......pretty much a smallish feeling town with the access to the larger ones an hour or so away at most.

I've grown up here so it's easy to say what's great here and what's not. We've wanted to leave for some time now......but truthfully I don't want to deal with weather issues, or snow, or cold. Almost every year our Christmas day is a decent sunny day in the mid 60's most of the time. How many can say that?

No future? Maybe it's just me but that place is heaven.

I hope to major in Business and/or Marketing. Then find a job at a casino or ski resort or whatever. Living in Truckee is great.

They have many art programs, if your into that, they have a couple large galleries. More people are moving in creating larger tax revenue for the school districts, beautiful parks, lot's of riding. You can ride a motorcycle/snowmobile on most trails in and around Truckee.

Sure it's a smaller town but there is a large benefit to that. Minimal traffic, few people on the local trails etc, etc.

The bike shops are awesome, super friendly people. I forget the name but the Kona dealer situated near Truckee Medical Center, is one of the most chill bike shops i have ever been too.

They have as many stores as Walnut Creek, great restaurants etc etc.
It's quiet, the air is clean, real estate is relatively inexpensive.

If you want a bigger town check out Tahoe, just as much riding more shopping more industry.

The town is growing rapidly, every time we I go (I go a lot) there is new houses, new stores. I believe, don't quote me, but I believe a Target will be there sooner than later.

While Truckee was a small little ski town, it is now growing & would be a great place to be.

Check it out. Truckee's website

pick a spot on the east coast...resorts around here are really stepping it up, and you can live anywhere in the northeast and be within a ****load of mountains...jim mac named several and more are coming on the market everyday...

if i had a job lined up, lake placid would be near the top of my list...whiteface around the corner and bromont a short drive...plus plattekill and diablo within a day's drive.

Sorry dudes - I was in a serious/seeking mood when I started this thread and was pretty fresh out of sarcasm and irony ;)
Well then what were you doing asking the Monkey?
We take being first class jack-asses pretty seriously.
