@6thElement

You done this route yet? https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/648142

I seem to recall @SkaredShtles talking about the misery that is the climb up Ptarmigan Pass.

Otherwise I'm still on the search for something acceptably hard, high, and epic.

Maybe out-n-back to Kokomo ala this? http://ridemonkey.bikemag.com/threads/do-you-like-to-get-high-man-colorado-trail-copper-to-kokomo-pass.260089/#post-3911653
I was thinking of dirty copper towards the end of August for the week of riding I've planned for some east coast visitors. Interesting thought to start at Camp Hale, might have to ponder that.

I've done the shorter Kokomo and back, great scenery on that ride.

I could sacrifice this from my August list:
https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/7006083 (but ridden in the opposite direction)

Or we could shuttle this:
https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/7029106

Or roadtrip up to Gowdy for this loop, it's a long time since I rode there.
https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/3801032

FYI my ride list for my visitors starting on the 19th is the following, all welcome to join:
Buffalo Creek Big Loop - 24 miles, 3.5hours
https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/845269
South Park, Red Cone, Burning Bear Loop - 31miles, 6 hours
https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/7017246
Kenosha Pass to Georgia Pass and West Jefferson - 22miles, 4 hours
https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/65904
Dirty Copper Triangle - 32 miles, 6 hours
https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/648142
Circumnavigation of Mt. Guyot - 38 miles, 7 hours
https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/7020835
Two Elk to Game Creek Loop -24miles, 4.5 hours
https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/7006083
Miners Creek Trail - 26miles, 6 hours (ridden as a loop from Frisco)
https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/6093817

TWE will happen in October too.

Park at the bottom of the Burning Bear descent if you're going to loop this one. Best done as a point-to-point, though. That road SUCKS.
Kenosha Pass to Georgia Pass and West Jefferson - 22miles, 4 hours
https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/65904
Start this one where the CT crosses the Jefferson Crk Road - out and back to Kenosha if you insist on doing the whole thing, then loop CT/Jeff Crk
Miners Creek Trail - 26miles, 6 hours (ridden as a loop from Frisco)

Check with @Full Trucker, but I *believe* this is best ridden from Breck (Wheeler Trail), over Wheeler Pass, then down Miner's. Miner's Creek as a climb sucks big time, but I think as a descent is pretty awesome. And I *think* that the CT descent to Copper is rather uneventful (read: boring-ish compared to the Miner's descent).

I like the sounds of the Two Elks or the High Lonesome->Strawberry Creek->Doe Creek shuttle. My vote is to pass on Curt Gowdy for now, might as well try and get in all the high country stuff we can while the too short season lasts. Curt Gowdy seems like it'd be a perfect destination for later in the year when all the good stuff is snowed in.

I've only ever ridden Miner's Creek from the top once, and never climbed it. But IMHO I wouldn't climb it that way, I share the opinion / observation of @SkaredShtles that CT descent to Copper would be uneventful when compared to Miner's Creek. Plus Miner's Creek gets all steep and loose and whatnot near the top...

Another suggestion is the below:
CT - Camp Hale to Holy Cross Wilderness
https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/5880099

I'd wanted to ride it this past weekend but weather and having to fly to the right coast for work got in the way.

What's the headcount for Saturday?
Wife and I are in.
?

If you want a big-ish day... sort out a shuttle from Copper to Tennessee Pass and then do Copper -> Camp Hale -> HCW -> back to Tennessee Pass. Not sure what that mileage would be, but you'd get a lot of bang for your buck on that shuttle.

DONE. I very much like the sounds of that. I'm assuming you were intending to leave Golden early on Saturday?

@Nick , @stoney , @Toshi , @Pesqueeb any interest? Back seats are in my truck so I can accommodate people.

I'm not free until next weekend. Haley has her race this weekend and family is in town.

If it's just you Tim we could consolidate into a single car at our house, departing from there pretty early to avoid afternoon storms.

Riding the baggage carousel.
I've been contemplating a solo backpack trip around Maroon Bells mid or end of August after the girls go back to school. 3 or 4 days around the loop. It would be on my weekend, so wed-sat, or tues-fri. Anyone want to go with?

Thur-Sun, 5-8 Oct is looking like it might be a Fruita/Moab weekend with some Whole Enchilada to be consumed.

Anyone else interested?

Also planning on hitting the Kenosha to West Jefferson loop again this season in October sometime. West Jefferson is all sorts of a good time if you've not done it before, 4 1/2 hours at a reasonable pace.
